I’m catching up on a few more things and then I’ll do a ‘full’ ballot on the year so far at the start of July because there’s too many great options for me to narrow down to 3.
Also here to say that I’m not one for watching Sky adventure/sci-if dramas but I’ve started The Lazarus Project and can highly recommend!

June 28, 2022 at 7:52 pm #1204999027Lindsay Duncan really makes the case for why there should be a guest acting BAFTA in episode 4 of Sherwood. What an actor.
ReplyCopy URLJune 28, 2022 at 10:39 pm #1204999100Speaking of Sherwood it has been recommissioned for a second series by the beeb (although it looks like it’s returning as an anthology rather than a continuation of the first season’s narrative).

Fully expect BAFTA to embrace it and C4 to renew it soon!

June 30, 2022 at 10:38 am #1205000596I’m curious to see how much the acting is embraced by the jury. Jon Pointing gives the standout performance but I wonder if Camille Coduri or Katy Wix could show up just with how outwardly comedic their turns were? Not that it matters with BAFTA but Coduri is certainly overdue recognition.

ReplyCopy URLJuly 1, 2022 at 9:42 pm #1205001927With us having passed through half of the eligibility period, it’s that time of year where we really get into discussing what the best programmes that have aired so far and in turn when the predictions centre polls begin!
I’ve adjusted the predictions centre format this time round so you can enter your Gold Derby user name so if you want to check with me what your last predictions were before you make new ones in the next predictions centre round in two months. Likewise when nominations come out next March and the final round of predictions are completed we could compile a very Gold Derby esque leaderboard for predictions accuracy!
Other than that everything is more or less the same. We’ll be doing series this month, the supporting acting categories in August and the comedy performing categories in September and then all 10 from October onwards. With the exception of International series (which obviously has 6 slots) please don’t pick more than 4 options per category. Voting closes this Friday. If you have any queries or want a show that I may have missed out when compiling these lists to be added for the next round please feel free to let me know!
All the best and happy predicting!

This has to be the year they open the series categories to five each…and add in a Guest Performer trophy. Maybe a Comedy Supporting Performer one or a Continuing Drama Performance one as well?

No worries!
A continuing drama performance is probably the most urgent one on the list. Not that I really watch most of them (although I do tend to dip in and out of Corrie time after time) but there is some excellent work going on in soap operas right now and it would be a great way of recognising new talent (some of the most accomplished actors working in TV in this country started off in them!) My guess is we’ll probably be more likely to see a comedy supporting performer category considering how the calls for it seem to be getting louder with each passing BAFTA cycle from parts of the membership.
