The Hollywood Critics Association’s 2nd foray into TV award-giving will be a 2 night thing. 60 categories planned, including writing, directing, short-form and international series.
May 26: Submission deadline

June 20-30: Member voting start/end date
July 7: Nomination Day, 11AM ET/8PT
July 14-25: Final voting period starts/ends
August 13: HCA Ceremony: Broadcast/Cable
August 14: HCA Ceremony: StreamingThis has to be the most embarrassing and fruitless “awards body” I’ve ever seen lol. Their 15 slots drama supporting actress lineup from last year still sends me.

As disdained as these awards are, they may have solved the Squid Game issue. Add an international series category. That way, you hat tip it without taking away a streaming series (and more) nominations from a US/Canada/UK hour.
How would you feel come Emmy nomination day if your favorite drama that has a chance at ATAS gold gets shafted as they succumb to slobber over this season’s flavor of the moment, as I truly fear the Academy will? What if, say, This Is Us is sacrificed in their final season just to put over the Hunger Games knockoff?

What’s worse is that only a handful of streamers & networks dominate the space leaving so much great work often overlooked. I feel like there needs to be a new system that helps to ensure that some of these great shows that are under the radar have their chance to shine.

Let’s hope it won’t be the only award Strange New Worlds picks up. Best Trek series since Next Gen. But what a tragic end to the penultimate season 1 episode last night, wasn’t it?
Also, season 2 has already wrapped (!!) . Still a bummer it’ll be 9 months away from airing.
