A word of mouth hit
Been catching up on this myself over the last few days. I’ve seen the first three episodes so far. I can see why it’s become quite the hit. It’s very entertaining. I love myself a good reality competition show (Survivor, Amazing Race, Drag Race, The Mole…) and this so far has perfectly fit the bill. Great cast, great drama and a GREAT soundtrack. The menacing versions they play of popular songs like Toxic and Zombie are amazing, hello? I do think it’s a format that more than any of the other ones I’ve mentioned absolutely lives or dies by its cast, so we’ll see if they can keep the momentum going in future seasons or if we got super lucky with the casting this time around. The US is also premiering their own version next month with some Survivor and Big Brother (Cirie and Rachel!!!) alumni as well as…. Brandi Glanville from Real Housewives so… I am cautiously optimistic about that one.

Winslet was absolutely stellar in this. Threapleton was really good but sometimes I felt she was too one note. The surprise was Joe Mendes who was great in his role. Deals with such a heavy topic that its difficult to watch and I believe its too claustrophobic. Also the character of Winslet is really irritating in the sense that in weaker hands, this would have turned into a villanous character. The camera movements sometimes make it unbearable.

Better than all other I Am except I Am Kirsty starring Morton.Score: 7.5/10

Hopefully this becomes too big for the jury to not give Claudia Winkleman the entertainment performance BAFTA and end the 30 year drought of female winners in that category.
