Orlando Jones seems like a good bet for a Guest nomination too.
I agree with Orlando.
February 7, 2023 at 8:32 pm #1205296854With the confirmation that Hacks won’t return in time, that means the only big comedy HBO will have at the 2023 Emmys will be Barry.
Meanwhile, in Drama, HBO has Succession, which is 100% guaranteed; The Last of Us, which is being highly praised at the moment; and House of the Dragon, which despite the poor performance in the guilds, was still very watched and could be the typical candidate who gets a lone nomination in a Drama Series (like The Mandalorian Season 1 and the last two seasons of Stranger Things).
Do you think there is a possibility that HBO will try to move The White Lotus to Comedy?

WOC excellence!
Yeoh for The Brothers Sun?
Since American Born Chinese is very much a kids book.

No, although it would REALLY annoy me if they did so I might be biased. To me they made their decision at winter.

No, American Born Chinese is what she has 50+ predictions for (I don’t know if people know it’s a kids book). That’s her search since June 1 generally.
February 7, 2023 at 11:21 pm #1205296950Wow! Now that the great is indeed making eligibility, i think Fanning is VERY likely to happen (almost a lock), as for hacks being out of the board… Selena has increased her chances quite a lot (rooting for her), Cardellini is her biggest threat in my opinion (although i still think that dead to me doesn’t have the strength to get its two leads in). At the end, it’ll all come down on how their campaigns are going to be structured. And what about the lead actor race guys? I mean, five are locks, but who do y’all are predicting for that last spot?
February 7, 2023 at 11:29 pm #1205296960For what it’s worth on Wiki page views for this cycle – I did a query on everyone with 50+ predictions – (keeping in mind WHERE people are at: i.e some are unaired, some are mid-cycle, two are Oscar nominees this cycle, some are really famous, etc etc etc)

Courteney Cox (unaired)Is this for Shining Vale S2 or does she have another new airing soon?

It is, I’ve included everybody with 50+ people predicting them (some of the odds are a bit wonky so that seemed more reasonable). I’m not sure why she’s suddenly jumped up to 86 people predicting her because it was 14 last cycle. I don’t think the show has been dated yet but I’d assume that it will come out around when the new Scream movie does (which is next month).
She trends very high naturally, there is a little bit of rise recently, but nothing too crazy. It’s not really reflected on IMDB
February 8, 2023 at 3:10 am #1205297033Honestly I wouldn’t dismiss Courteney Cox that quickly. They did her dirty being the only Friends cast member to not receive a nomination. Maybe not on this cycle, but in the future she could see a Kaley Cuoco-style nod.
If there was a wildcard contender at play it would be between her and Cecily Strong.

Yeah, they have done her dirty. The issue with Cox isn’t her (she had good reviews) it’s that most of us who follow the Emmys closely roll our eyes with frustration everytime a great project is announced at Starz because they have a terrible above the line record for whatever reason (the last actor they nominated was Chiwetel Efiojor in 2014). Some of that can be attributed to shows being quite marginal, but not all of it.
(She did finally get an Emmy nomination for producing the reunion special last year, though, which is at least something).

I feel like Schmigadoon might be a touch small, but I think she is quite realistic for SNL, especially with the double exposure. I really like Schmigadoon and her in it, so she’d be a great wildcard.

It seems to be the case that for shows that are dramedies, comedies with no intention to make you laugh but try to be funny, low stake dramas their self-proclaimed criteria is the runtime of episodes. The Bear is opting for comedy because it’s probably thinking its half-hour episodes would be buried under hourlong episodes, so I guess because of that The White Lotus will remain in drama. Its potential wins in drama at SAG and PGA might also consolidate this.
February 8, 2023 at 5:27 am #1205297102I fear vote splitting will become more inevitable from the return of the limited ballot. This presents danger to the Applegate-Cardellini, and Short-Martin duos. The former pair is far more susceptible.

I am definitely biased as a massive Dead to Me fan, but it feels weird (and honestly, has felt weird at CC and SAG) to only have Applegate on your ballot if you’ve seen Season 3. This season is Cardellini’s best work on the show pretty easily, so I’m not sure why you’d only nominate one of them when they’re like, equal. Cardellini has missed everywhere but idk, I think there being an extra 6th slot at the Emmys should help her slide in if they’ve actually seen the show and want to nominate Applegate.
This was kind of a ramble (sorry), so I will just quickly add that I do not think Cardellini existing infringes on Applegate’s chances at all. She’s just someone who would come along if they liked season 3 and Applegate.
