I will just quickly add that I do not think Cardellini existing infringes on Applegate’s chances at all. She’s just someone who would come along if they liked season 3 and Applegate.
I currently have Cardellini down for a nomination. I’m only re-evaluating this choice after assessing the frequency of duo-nods in lead performer categories. In the golden age of television when the ballot was limited, this only happened twice. Once with Best Actress in 2005, when very impressively 3/4 of the Desperate Housewives ensemble were nominated during its ratings-monster premiere season. And then again in 2011 in the Best Actor category with two stars from the Big Bang Theory scoring amidst the sitcoms growing popularity.
I would say that the chances of a double-acceptance for the Dead-to-Me duo are unlikely based on the dwindling enthusiasm for the series. However I have decided to keep Linda Cardellini in my predictions because I’m assuming the limited ballot is the same as it was before the change (10 choices, 6 openings – top 6 get in.) Voters who champion Applegate will definitely select Cardellini in their 10 which gives her the advantage against the other uncertain candidates.
If they resort to strategic voting, ie not filling their ballot, then I’d give her even greater odds. I just wonder which lambs they’ll have to sacrifice for this

There are six slots for lead categories, not ten unfortunately. I still believe a handful of voters will be tactical by choosing spoiler-candidates on their ballots to block out competition. So if you see a Courteney Cox or a Cecily Strong on there you’ll know why.
February 8, 2023 at 9:29 am #1205297243I understand I’m like 3 months late but I just finished Dead To Me and I cried the whole 30 mins of the finale. That’s not an exaggeration. Emotionally distraught. Linda Cardellini and Christina Applegate are both incredible. Everyone should have that kind of friendship with someone. You both deserve all the awards and noms.
I was in tears during the finale and was so moved by both performances, Cardellini tipped it for me however. The return of the limited ballot is somewhat of a benefit for Cardellini, but it’s much more of a hindrance to her chances which really saddens me as a big fan of her and her performance. If the voters go all in for Dead to Me then she could make it in as I feel like it would be a more of a passion pick performance, a performance that deserves a nomination 1000%, but with duo-nods being a rarity under the limited ballot, I really do worry about her chances – I have her in right now and will continue to root and hope she makes it in.

February 8, 2023 at 9:41 am #1205297255this broke my heart.
“Jen is taking care of her friend who’s [spoiler], yet Linda was taking care of me as I was saying goodbye to the person that I’d always known — so part of me was dying,” she says.

This frightens me because I can really see it happening. On the unlimited ballot they used to only select 3-4 to strengthen the chances of their chosen nominees.
February 8, 2023 at 10:42 am #1205297332With Hacks likely missing eligibility, gosh I hope both my Hulu girls Selena Gomez and Elle Fanning get nominated! Fanning does some amazing work on The Great, such an underrated comedy in my opinion. As for Gomez, she really did showcase wonderful comedy acting on Season 2 of Murders. Variety described it as her “career-best” and she should be recognized as an actress.

February 8, 2023 at 7:07 pm #1205297722Curious if Bupkis can breakout like Poker Face (at least with the industry). TPTB seem determined to make Pete Davidson for half a decade now and a show co-starring Edie Falco and Joe Pesci is a huuggee get.

February 9, 2023 at 2:46 am #1205297884Does anyone have an idea of when Maisel is back? It was 18 February last year. I kind of like the idea of it not coming out too late but it feels like they’re probably going to release it in April or May?

It is worrying that they haven’t put out a teaser trailer yet. Those first glimpses typically land 3-4 months before the release, which if they expect to meet this years deadline it should be imminent…
