Does anyone have an idea of when Maisel is back? It was 18 February last year. I kind of like the idea of it not coming out too late but it feels like they’re probably going to release it in April or May?
Daisy Jones and the Six finishes on March 24th so I’m assuming Maisel will then start on March 31st and then air weekly through to May 19th (or air twice a week through to April 21st). They wrapped almost a year ago so I’m assuming Amazon are holding out for more strategic reasons, seeing as Daisy Jones and the Six might bring a lot of attention to them as a streamer if it translates its pre-hype, as opposed to the show facing post-production delays.
It will be interesting not only with it but with quite a few other shows that are going towards April/May premieres how they end up performing. Last year shows that premiered that late tended to really under-perform (with the exception of Better Call Saul) but whilst it does feel like time is running out this season it doesn’t really feel like it is as backloaded as it was last year? Comparatively March feels super stacked. I wonder if HBO are gravitating towards a later release date for Barry for similar reasons as well. If they were to start next month they’d be fighting for premiere attention with other TV tentpoles like Succession, Yellowjackets and The Mandalorian.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I will say I don’t really love the idea of Barry, Ted and Maisel running their final seasons concurrently (ie within a month of each other).

Personally as a TV viewer I think I honestly prefer it to the onslaught of limited series we had in the last few months of eligibility last year. Even last year when streamers were pumping out comedies and dramas every two minutes I vastly enjoyed watching shows like The Flight Attendant, Russian Doll, Better Call Saul and Barry that actually felt like television shows to a bunch of limited series that were well made but ultimately nothing more than recycled movie ideas.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

February 9, 2023 at 5:36 pm #1205298881Is it just me that thinks Applegate is being highly underestimated when it comes to a SAG win? She has the narrative, she’s a SAG veteran that hasn’t won yet and it would be an incredibly deserved win. The same could be said honestly Gomez for the Emmy nom, she also has a narrative and her documentary only solidified that (a documentary that was recognised by the Academy and CCA). Without Smart being in contention this year, I feel like her chances have only increased exponentially: I want both my Mothers to receive their flowers.
FYC: Only Murders in the Building and The Handmaid’s Tale in all categories including Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Elisabeth Moss, and Yvonne Strahovski.
February 9, 2023 at 5:58 pm #1205298902SAG will be important, Applegate could possibly hijack Brunson’s momentum.
Also I’ve been stressing the love for My Mind & Me Selena is getting praised from audiences and associations she hadn’t reached before. It’s heavy in her arsenal for nominations time.

I mean maybe on these boards, but there’s like two dozen regular posters at best here so we’re not really a representative sample.
In the odds she’s third, which feels appropriate to me. Ortega’s nomination feels like the reward and I’d be very surprised by Brosnahan, although I suppose she could have garnered slowburn support. I’d flip Jean and Quinta but I can’t really make a compelling argument to put Applegate any higher than third.
I don’t think there’s enough evidence around the health narrative driving someone past nomination stage (if I am forgetting someone, remind me).

This is a fair point – as much as I feel like it might not help all three I’m much more likely to watch all three than a bunch of baity limited series.
