Regarding the Selena Gomez debacle… when assessing her chances it’s worth remembering that she will be absent from this upcoming campaign circuit to shoot for the next Jacques Audiard film in Paris.

ooh sorry she can’t do another silly roundtable she’s on set with an esteemed Oscar nominated director. How exactly will this hinder rather than help her??

It benefits her but it’s also a slight hindrance to her chances. Her working with an acclaimed director obviously provides her with more credibility and that will help her in the long-term, but she does need to do some campaigning to help her chances this year.

Beef will be screening at sxsw as the closing night premiere, Vogue says that it will be on Netflix in April.

American Born Chinese will also make its debut in the festival.

In my opinion, Selena’s campaigning needs to be more industry focused and tied in to what is already working for the show and less about outlets using her name for clicks.

In my opinion she should primarily be doing campaigning with Short and Martin, especially as a secondary lead. She doesn’t need to win over gen pop or stans, she needs to win over the people who are voting for Short and Martin.

She’s already done that by getting Meryl to join ship, they’ve mentioned in passing it was Selena’s efforts that caught her but they’ll definitely get more into it on the campaign.

I do feel like the campaign will be aimed at trying to get Selena in. I’ve noticed on the Disney FYC website that the Only Murders reviews are skewed towards Selena’s performance.

Lucky Hank will also be premiering at the festival as well.

And Donald Glover’s first full series since Atlanta, the BeyHive inspired “Swarm” series for Amazon (co-created with Janine Nabers), not sure if that will be out this cycle (I imagine Amazon will want all their focus on Maisel) or even be competing in Comedy. the description & first look teaser are giving Drama

Cecily Strong only appeared in six episodes this season of SNL, right? Do you think she can be submitted as Guest?

Christie is a better pickup at 100/1 odds than most though. She has solid reviews, very good visibility, is not someone where genre bias will be a disadvantage and she knows how to campaign/was nominated the last season she was eligible

Does anyone really care enough about her performance to vote for it though? I love her but I feel like no one talked about her (at least relative to other actors in the ensemble of Wednesday) during the show’s run. Each of these things feel like stuff that would help her on an unlimited ballot as opposed to a restricted ballot in a stacked category.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
