Selena missing out for season 1 was understandable, I think she was still getting warmed up. Her sophomore performance was a pleasant surprise, she seemed more comfortable opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short. Flipping the Pieces was unequivocally her best work as an actress.

I think that was purposeful with the storyline and character dynamics

Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!
March 23, 2023 at 3:46 pm #1205361717I’ve been meaning to ask this for a while now but do we think Lisa Ann Walter can make it in? She’s incredibly underrated and deserves something, but considering she couldn’t even make it in for Critics Choice I’m just hesitant to predict her?

she’s eighth in the odds now and I’ve been predicting her since January. I’d be surprised if she didn’t make it in tbh.
March 23, 2023 at 4:03 pm #1205361743I think Perfetti and Walter will be easy second-season boost nods for Abbott. They’ve both had a wealth of material this season (even more than James, however surprisingly), and I’ve seen their performances noted on social media just as much as their previously-nominated counterparts (which was not true of season 1). At this point I’d be pretty shocked to see either miss.
And I’d be disappointed as well! They’ve both been absolutely hilarious this season.
FYC: Bad Sisters (Anne-Marie Duff) Cunk on Earth (Diane Morgan), Fleishman Is in Trouble (Lizzy Caplan/Claire Danes), Industry (Marisa Abela/Myha'la Herrold), Physical (Rose Byrne), Poker Face (Ellen Barkin/Joseph Gordon-Levitt/Chloë Sevigny), The White Lotus (Sabrina Impacciatore)
March 23, 2023 at 4:08 pm #1205361747Eh, Critics Choice was very idiosyncratic this year and made a lot of WTF snubs. For example, they snubbed contenders like Peters, Debicki, and Chastain, actors who almost every single predictor is currently predicting to make it, some predicting to even win. And you also have to consider who Walter missed out to: people from Reservation Dogs, Uncoupled, and Young Sheldon, shows that have either never factored with the Emmys acting-wise or don’t have any reason to make us believe they would. Of course Walter can miss anyway, but I think her show is strong enough and the category is open enough that she will make it. The SAG Ensemble win, compliments from actors like Winkler, and her show being more watched this time around (all cycle-long, too) only can help her.
March 23, 2023 at 4:22 pm #1205361752My tentative writing and directing predictions…
BIG sigh in Writing. This one is TOUGH. As I said in the other thread, the nature of Poker Face’s structure seems to perfectly set it up for multiple writing slots, and Beef also seems right up the writers’ alley. But leaving Only Murders and WWDITS out feels wrong… And that’s not even accounting for something like Somebody Somewhere or The Other Two that could have a Fleabag type moment. Oh well. Would rather swing big than completely miss.

March 23, 2023 at 4:29 pm #1205361758So, do people think Beef will be Netflix’s main priority in comedy?
March 23, 2023 at 4:30 pm #1205361760Can we even declare Beef competitive as yet?
Something in my soul is telling me it will be this year’s Pachinko, at least in terms of luck with award shows.
March 23, 2023 at 5:26 pm #1205361789Not the Selena defenders again after her missing out for TWO seasons 🤦
March 23, 2023 at 5:39 pm #1205361800Why is it always the same losers who bust in here drooling like pavlov’s dogs at the sound of selena gomez’s name. it’s okay if you’re not rooting for her, but other people are?
none of this is that serious. log off and touch grass.
For Your Emmy Consideration:
Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook - Succession
Selena Gomez - Only Murders in the Building
Elizabeth Olsen - Love & DeathMarch 23, 2023 at 5:43 pm #1205361806Not the Selena defenders again after her missing out for TWO seasons
And what’s this other season that she missed out on besides the first lol?
March 23, 2023 at 6:01 pm #1205361825Incredibly organic that a lot of Selena Gomez stan accounts created in 2023 have showed up here at the same time and are always available to like all comments related to her.
March 23, 2023 at 6:04 pm #1205361831Uh… anyways, out of curiosity, who are you guys thinking are the biggest contenders for the guest acting categories? Besides Ayo Edebiri for Abbott Elementary (which I feel has gotta be happening, right?), I’m pretty lost as to who the “major contenders” are with all of these Poker Face people (plus the SNL people once again).
Personally pulling for Ellen Barkin but I have no idea how realistic she is…
And could the Poker Face people just votesplit themselves into only getting the one Adrien Brody nomination?
FYC:
Succession, Industry, Ted Lasso, Dead to Me, and Fleishman Is in Trouble in all categories! Why are you reporting this post? (optional):Not now
