I think Adrien Brody, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Nick Nolte (maybe I’m forgetting someone else?) all stood out enough that they’ll get in. For actresses, it’s a little harder just with how many established actresses with similar roles they had. They were all individually great but I could see some blending together in the voters minds and making it harder for each one to get a decent showing.
March 23, 2023 at 6:13 pm #1205361838So, do people think Beef will be Netflix’s main priority in comedy?
Joyce and Christopher (both of whom have seen and really liked it) said on the slugfest yesterday they need to see how it’s received before they make any really strong predictions as it might be a bit too esoteric to have any real broadness, but they feel confident in Yeun specifically who they think will benefit from that date over Hoult and Glover.
They both also said it works as a limited series (which we already know) that could be continued, but doesn’t need to be.
March 23, 2023 at 6:18 pm #1205361843Uh… anyways, out of curiosity, who are you guys thinking are the biggest contenders for the guest acting categories? Besides Ayo Edebiri for Abbott Elementary (which I feel has gotta be happening, right?), I’m pretty lost as to who the “major contenders” are with all of these Poker Face people (plus the SNL people once again). Personally pulling for Ellen Barkin but I have no idea how realistic she is… And could the Poker Face people just votesplit themselves into only getting the one Adrien Brody nomination?
Adrien brody from all people getting in but not Natasha, it’s not realistic.

March 23, 2023 at 6:30 pm #1205361851I’ve been meaning to ask this for a while now but do we think Lisa Ann Walter can make it in? She’s incredibly underrated and deserves something, but considering she couldn’t even make it in for Critics Choice I’m just hesitant to predict her?
I think she is around the mark but not a lock. I think the predictions in that category are a bit off, though.
March 23, 2023 at 6:34 pm #1205361855With all the talk of comedy supporting actor has anyone considered the possibility of Ebon Moss-Bachrach winning if he gets nominated? I feel like Mohammed having a very big season on Ted Lasso is going to cause more of a split between him and Goldstein this time and Perfetti getting in will hurt Williams so we could have a wide open race. With The Bear going to have the most recency bias of all the contenders with its second season airing in June and him having a showy and over the top characterisation I wonder if things could be tipped in his direction.
Of course the counter here is that it feels hard to imagine him winning without Edebiri and White and 3 acting wins feels a bit overkill, regardless of how deserving they may be or the possibility of The Bear going all the way to win series. But then again I remember we were in a similar situation with the Mare of Easstown and The Queen’s Gambit match up two years ago and we saw how that turned out…
Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!

Sorry if I was unclear, I meant Brody being the sole guest acting nomination. Natasha has the best chance out of all of them I agree
FYC:
Succession, Industry, Ted Lasso, Dead to Me, and Fleishman Is in Trouble in all categories!March 23, 2023 at 6:41 pm #1205361862I think supporting actress is going to come down to campaigning efforts in those last few spots.

Well I don’t think Edibiri’s winning, so then it’s just two acting wins which is plausible. And it would be so deserved. Loved Ebon!

Drama: The Last of Us, Stranger Things
Limited/Movie:
March 23, 2023 at 6:54 pm #1205361870It would be an impressive feat if Alex Borstein can reclaim the Emmy for the third and final time, but it’s difficult once you’ve lost twice.

I’d like to see Tony Shalhoub win again too tbh
Idk if his chances are that big tho
March 23, 2023 at 7:04 pm #1205361878How much I am not in to Poker Face (despite liking Johnson and Lyonne a lot) is really clouding my judgement on Poker Face. Is it just me? I just don’t really get what the fuss is about.

I actually think Borstein can miss. That category is stacked.

He will probably be the best on the category again and still lose.
Neither him or Borstein are winning. He lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see.
Into the water, into the truth, in your reflection, he lives in you.March 23, 2023 at 7:07 pm #1205361892I actually think Borstein can miss. That category is stacked.
Nooo that would suck. Going from two-time winner to completely snubbed on your swan song.
