I wonder if they’ll be submitted together as one entry like Fey and Poehler were.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

November 29, 2022 at 1:04 pm #1205170778Wednesday broke the Stranger Things S4 record.
Yeah, Netflix definitely has to invest in this show’s awards campaign. Even more so considering the only other likely candidates they have at the moment (as far as I can remember) are Dead to Me and Cobra Kai.
November 29, 2022 at 1:26 pm #1205170810After the noms of Inventing Anna and Emily In Paris I wouldn’t underestimate anything popular. I think Ortega actually has a shot at getting nominated now.

Yep. That’s not just an Ortega thing. They need to look at ensemble or series/supporting noms.
November 29, 2022 at 3:36 pm #1205170919The good news for Wednesday is that unlike both Emily in Paris and Inventing Anna it actually has strong audience approval ratings so it might actually be something voters check off just out of purely liking it as opposed to it being a guilty binge watch that people check off when they can’t think of anything else to fill their ballot with. The bad news for Wednesday is that (whilst it is more popular than other shows) the same could have also been said for both Bodyguard and Cobra Kai which I do think work as comparisons of well received genre series that weren’t really taken seriously in their respective fields outside of being thrown series nods and not much else.
I think it’s still too early to tell how much of an Emmy thing it will be because this season feels so backloaded but I do feel more content having Ortega in my Globe predictions now and I’ve decided to have fun and throw it in at SAG to spice things up and because (whilst I will probably not keep it there in my predictions at the end of the day) I do think we’ve seen recent cases of SAG suddenly nominating shows that are making really big waves near voting as of late (even as they haven’t translated at the Emmys) when there’s a wide open slot. I think what would be decisive for it as a contender is if it gets PGA and DGA nominations not only because both fields are super competitive this year but also because both guilds have a history of nominating shows like this in the past with PGA skewing just as populist as SAG and DGA tending to jump at the sight of big names (which of course Tim Burton is a very big one). With Barry, Only Murders in the Building, Hacks, The Bear and even the final season of Atlanta (a show that just so recently got a lone directing nod in spite of under-performing as a whole at the Emmys) and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (which has never missed PGA and has even won twice there)… it will be huge for it to get in at either.
I think we can say regardless that with its visibility and production values that it will probably be something the below the line branches embrace and that if the actors can nominate venerated guests from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, The Politician, Modern Love, Ratched and Brooklyn Nine-Nine that they can almost certainly nominate Catherine Zeta-Jones for playing Morticia Addams.

November 29, 2022 at 7:24 pm #1205171129Having seen the season my feelings are it’s a fun contender to throw in to the mix.
The show has its limitations – notably, it’s fun vs being in anyway groundbreaking – but I do think episode 4 (the prom episode) is really well directed and there’s no real reason actors shouldn’t take to it – plus I think it has a really healthy, sustainable crafts approach (it’s not particularly beholden to excessive CGI and relies a lot on costumes, hair, makeup, production design).

My feeling is James, mostly based on her S2 not being as buzzy.
November 29, 2022 at 7:46 pm #120517116490s Show trailer just dropped. Not sure if this will be a priority for Netflix (I can just a commercial play like their Full House and Manifest revivals) but could a our annual multi-cam nominee

It has really solid pre-release search. They do also have The Upshaws as well, which has already aired in this cycle.
November 29, 2022 at 8:13 pm #1205171184James is a tricky one. Not to equate the two voting bodies but I think there’s something to say for someone who has never been nominated before getting an Emmy nomination for a new show that didn’t even win series (although I guess Abbott was probably very close in the end seeing its win haul) over a slew of perennial nominees in a competitive year. At least when Sian Clifford showed up for Fleabag it was when the show went on to sweep the board. Then again her buzz does indeed feel muted for season 2 and I think it would be hard to justify Abbott getting three nominees in a competitive field without Tyler James Williams getting nominated in a comparatively weaker comedy actor field (although I am predicting him too at the moment).
I have to say I think Hannah Einbinder is being a bit overestimated at SAG. In recent years supporting contenders have only gotten in there when they’re in a show that is embraced (like Temple last year or Scott a couple of years ago), are win competitive for the Emmy and/or are a beloved veteran (Arkin). With Einbinder going into the winter season without the buzz of an Emmy win, having never been nominated at SAG before and with Hacks feeling like old news after its under-performance in Emmy wins from its first season… why would the committee nominate her? At least James is in the comedy ensemble frontrunner, Applegate is a never been snubbed beloved veteran with a personal narrative in the final season of a hit Netflix series and Brosnahan is a previous winner in an Amazon period comedy that won 5 SAG awards over the space of two seasons. She feels a lot more like another Anna Chlumsky to me than another Juno Temple (which is obviously not a bad thing to be haha).
I feel the same way with Selena Gomez. Just like Einbinder she can happen but why should she be ahead of Kaley Cuoco and Linda Cardellini when the former got in over her at the Emmys even as The Flight Attendant flopped and the latter has more buzz and is an incumbent nominee at SAG. I mean I don’t have either because of how competitive the field is but that’s precisely my point.

netflix popularity being a factor seems to vary depending on how weak the field is.
pre-dahmer, their biggest english language first months were ST4 and Bridgerton 2. Both were snubbed for acting/writing/directing, and ST4 was thrown a Series bone off of its techs essentially.
