If Ortega does get that Golden Globe nomination I’m actually starting to wonder if she’s going to win it.
I have no idea whether they’re going to take to this show (also not helped by the fact I get the sense people didn’t get all the screeners and the late release date)
On the crafts side I seem to be in a IG/TikTok makeup loop and I would not by surprised if it shows up in contemporary makeup – it’s quite viral and industry people seem to really like it, plus it doesn’t strike me as a particularly strong year so far.
December 2, 2022 at 4:59 pm #1205176333I just watched the “Private School” episode of What We Do in the Shadows and I need Ayo Edebiri to get double nominations this year because I think I’ll have to laugh myself to sleep tonight.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

Prepare for “Go Flip Yourself”, ICONIC episode.

It does have more industry friendly talent involved both in front of the camera and behind the scenes than other teen shows***. Beside the obvious big names like Tim Burton, Danny Elfman and Colleen Atwood, there are a slew of other Emmy nominated people part of the various tech departments. The adult cast being made up of the likes of Zeta Jones, Guzman, Armisen, Ricci, Christie etc helps it establish itself as an awards contender. Having a properly acclaimed performance with Ortega at its center doesn’t hurt either.
With Maisel’s decline and the likes of Ted Lasso, Abbott Elementary being our top contenders now, comedy is also open for a new across the board craft player to become a thing.
*** I refer to it as a teen show but it’s performimg closer to adult dramas in terms of demographic (age based) split as per IMDb. The likes of Euphoria, 13 Reasons Why etc are relatively big in the 18-29 range while trailing in the 45+ club which is expected. Wednesday having more logged ratings among the 45+ group than the 18-29 otoh is unusual for a show supposedly aimed at young adults and teens only. A near identical split as something like The Bear might be indicative of its broader appeal which is without a doubt massively helpful. Though much like Euphoria, being a massive hit on an Emmy friendly platform could be enough to overcome any of that anyway.
A Negroni. Sbagliato. With Prosecco in it.

Yep, I think the adult cast is pushing it in to more of an all-ages territory.
I also said it a while back but I felt like we were also badly overdue for something with some levity to break so I’m not hugely surprised by this.
This has been a very drama heavy stretch and these sorts of things tend to come in waves.
December 3, 2022 at 5:49 am #1205176611I was really impressed with how the show incorporated her diagnosis into this season. It felt like it was really done with dedication and respect to her as a performer. Most productions (and just workplaces in general) make the mistake of assuming that if you’re disabled you aren’t able to do anything without being limited to a corner and someone else helping to do it for you so it was really nice that they finished this season on her own terms.
I agree! It really is such an achievement for everyone involved. Not to mention the fact that they actually pulled it off. If I didn’t already know she has MS (and had it for half the time she filmed the season), I wouldn’t have been able to tell anything was different.
It felt like just another season of the show. The quality didn’t drop because of the circumstances at all, though the writing for the actual investigation was messy lol.

But the edits on TikTok were about the show, so that kinda proves Wednesday is really huge to push a song like that.

December 3, 2022 at 6:38 am #1205176647all that helped with emmy-wise was making the music supervision from a nom to a win, which this would not help with.
anyway, as far as netflix comedies with huge appeal, it’s still weird how sex ed couldn’t get a single nom with the primetime emmys for either season. especially with great reviews and gillian anderson anchoring things. But wednesday could have older folk boost with nostalgia given the 90s films.

I am inclined to think the engagement would suggest it’s going to go up hours next week to be honest.
December 3, 2022 at 8:01 am #1205176708This is something I’m proposing here at the beginning of each month: right now, based solely on the shows you’ve watched this season, what would be your nominees in each category?
I’m shocked at how strong the comedy field already is and I know next year will be filled with even more worthy nominees.
