It’s been 15 years since HBO missed out on a drama series nomination (it will be 16 in 2024). It will be quite a story if they go from winning drama with two or three other series nominees this year to a complete shut out the following year.

The Gilded Age won’t let that happen

They brought it to Cannes for a reason. They absolutely thought The Idol was gonna be their 2024 ticket to the Emmys 🤭

Don’t know if there’s any info about The White Lotus S3, but if it gets released on time for next year, it will be nominated easily and could even win continuing with HBO’s dominance
"EGOT" and "Triple Crown of Acting" winner: VIOLA DAVIS!!!!

The actual reality is that most major film festivals with TV releases don’t end up getting nominated, I’d have to do a list but I think on balance it’s more a curse than a blessing (I think they have a better record at Winter).

I suspect they also can run True Detective in drama if they want to.

Oh definitely. The White Lotus would be my ridiculously early win prediction if it’s guaranteed to be ready, but it sounds like it’s going to be held up by the writer’s strike, so whether TWL will be ready to fit all episodes in on time seems slightly in doubt at the moment. I hope it’s ready.
May 26, 2023 at 6:17 pm #1205442613At this point I have Severance fairly high mostly because I get the impression a lot of actors have caught up since season 1 and it feels like a natural continuation to the Succession obsession, but we’ll see.

I don’t think they can, I think the Emmys would move it since it is an anthology with (assuming) no returning characters.

It’s not like they won’t have drama series ready for next cycle.
Winning Time had a 7 month filming schedule (April-October 2021) and S2 began in August 2022, so it should be ready to air. Same The Gilded Age, S1 aired a year after filming began, S2 started August 2022. Industry S3 began production last month and should be unaffected by the writers strike given its a BBC co-production filmed in Wales. None of those three series received any Primetime nominations for their first seasons but either did True Blood and it’s 2nd season still managed to get a series nom assisted by being HBO’s only legitimate contender that year.
Their ads also confirmed The Sympathizer for a 2024 release date.
As Kat already mentioned, they can bump True Detective up to a drama series if they just want I focus on The Regime and Get Millie Back in Limited.
There’s also a chance that the Max Penguin series competes as drama too, it is currently being marketed as a miniseries but with IP shows it’s hard to define until after their done airing (though I can’t imagine a star like Farrell would want to commit to another full season with heavy prosthetic work).

They recently announced The Sympathizer is going limited.
May 26, 2023 at 6:48 pm #1205442632Nathan Lane said earlier this year that Gilded Age should air some time in September. I’m interested because that’s a show with clear potential to grow.

They’ll also possibly have The Tourist which I would bet my money on going for another New Years release in the UK (it’s filming in Ireland currently I believe). Whilst I wouldn’t say it’s a top contender, it’s unusually broad for HBO which might work better under Max.

I’m not sure they would necessarily do that (they might, I’m just not sure of something being moved out of drama and back to anthology?)
