I really feel like Rhea Seehorn being snubbed for every award imaginable and being paid dust for playing Kim Wexler over the last half-decade by all these awards bodies will go down in the “never won an Emmy” category of embarrassing for them. Suc a massive oversight.
And I say “embarrassing for them” because she’ll be fine, but they all look ridiculous. I’m sure Jennifer Coolidge is great in The White Lotus but I guarantee there’s nothing as good (especially in drama) as what Rhea was doing with single movements of her face in the last run of Better Call Saul.
Every second she’s on screen is an Emmy worthy performance but her work in 6×08, 6×09 and 6×12 should be like guaranteed award level of great. I don’t know what it is about BCS that award shows just find so uninteresting since BB was a big Emmy winner.
Personally, I want Rhea Seehorn to win her Emmy this year for such an amazing and memorable performance.
February 1, 2023 at 6:50 am #1205279250I’m much happier with her losing it to Coolidge but yeah, I definitely think Seehorn has the better performance. I feel like BB is a pretty straightforward fall from grace narrative that’s easy to follow, very flashy and full of action. For several seasons BCS was two seemingly unrelated tv shows stitched together that took years to show how they were connected, the Chuck and Jimmy storyline is amazing but not nearly as action and violence packed as anything in BB, plus all the time jumping stuff. I prefer BCS to BB but I think it’s a harder sell and it requires some trust and patience from the viewer. I could easily see an emmy voter turning on episode 1, thinking it’s boring or too different and unconnected to BB and thinking “ugh, I’m not sitting through six seasons of this.” Kind of a similar thing to The Wire perhaps where they aren’t easy watches, but at least BCS got nominated every year.
February 1, 2023 at 6:55 am #1205279254It’s going to be very interesting to see if Lyonne does get nominated in the end. The show may be on Peacock but it has a hell of a lot of buzz going for it right now and it feels like something the critics are going to take to through to the end of year (I wouldn’t be surprised to see it as a TCA programme of the year nominee like Killing Eve season 1 was).
Poker Face also has an insane amount of guest stars that are well respected, so I imagine voters will be inclined to watch not just for Lyonne, but for these too (Hong Chau and Stephanie Hsu having their own awards buzz going for them also can’t hurt, as people will likely be checking out their other projects too). Confident Lyonne will secure a spot.

It was bad enough when they didn’t even nominate her for the first five seasons tbh.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I also feel like this was a huge factor in Severance taking off last year compared to other Apple projects, stuff like For All Mankind and Girls5eva had the acclaim but they didn’t have the big names that Poker Face does. I also feel like already there’s much more buzz for Poker Face online compared to Girls5eva, which I’ve only really seen critics talk about.

agree but girls5eva will become a hit once it transitions to Netflix and people discover it. once the TikTok generation discovers Wickie she will be everywhere. Queen

It really does have that Tina Fey vibe, if 30 Rock and Kimmy Schmidt can get the viral attention I see no reason why Girls5eva can’t also become a meme factory if put in front of the right audience.

It’s time to manifest.

I think what would be good strategy for HBO is if they move Sarah Snook to Best Leading, giving J Smith Cameron more room for Best Supporting; such housekeeping is definitely is concurrent with the plot.

Industry is a small show with a giant heart. Myha’la Herrold gives the performance of the year, Marisa Abela, David Jonsson, Harry Lawtey and Ken Leung are all incredible.
Please go find this gem, created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay.
February 1, 2023 at 9:54 am #1205279560The way Herrold should be winning best actress and she’s not even going to be nominated… I hate it here.
February 1, 2023 at 10:43 am #1205279660How did I only just realize that Paramount/Showtime’s two biggest (and basically only) hits are YELLOWstone and YELLOWjackets??? That’s hilarious!
Anyway now that they’re officially merging and Yellowjackets is the company’s ONLY awards success, I expect season 2 to have the full weight of the Paramount press machine behind it.

Herrold is one of the most exciting young actresses working today. Her incredible performances on Industry and Bobies Bodies Bodies should attract more projects soon. She definitely deserves awards and nominations.
February 1, 2023 at 12:29 pm #1205279889Who do you think will get in, then ? Emma D’arcy, an unknown, for showing up in half of episodes in an industry flop ? Sharon Horgan, who deserves it but we have no evidence at all to consider her as a serious prediction ? There’s just two people there (Lynskey and Imelda) that look like they’re safe predictions as of now, one that could be (Ramsey), and that’s it. There’s someone from a Peacock show, there’s Moss who is in a show that’s been on a clear downfall, and the Yellowjackets people. Unlike Severance, which we knew it would be released at some point since 2021, I’m not really seeing any upcoming show with potential to be a breakthrough. Last of Us is already this.
All those names you mentioned are much more likely, yes.
I’m not currently predicting D’Arcy but she has the benefit of being the character most people root for in the most seen show of the cycle.
Horgan is a previous nominee (for writing), has been around for years, and Bad Sisters has a very passionate fan base. It also received 2 noms at WGA and seems like a show that could really benefit from the restricted ballot.
Ramsey is happening, even though I haven’t been that impressed by her performance. I don’t share the same doubts as others regarding her age or status in the industry. She’s also in a show everyone will see and people have been raving about.
I have Lyonne in based on the options in the predictions center but I’m not sold yet. Still, she’s a previous nominee in a show that’s critically acclaimed. Too soon to determine how it’s doing audience wise, and Peacock definitely doesn’t help, but Rian Johnson is a big name which bodes well for visibility within the industry.
Moss could always return if competition is thin, as she has in the past, even though I don’t see it happening this time around. Regardless, she’s an Emmy favorite and is much more likely to pop up again than Bassett for the 6th season of FOX drama.
It is possible for Yellowjackets to get another actress here as well, especially if it doesn’t suffer a sophomore slump. It’s been embraced by the Emmys already and people won’t need to catch up this time around since it’s not its debut season. Buzz will be high if the show maintains its quality.
As for what else could come — it’s still only February. We didn’t know Severance would be as big as it was until after it’s release, honestly. Also, the way TV is nowadays, we don’t actually hear about what’s premiering until a month or two before the premiere date. What’s in the prediction center for drama, comedy and limited that hasn’t been released yet won’t be the only shows we’ve yet to see for this season.
