Herrold is one of the most exciting young actresses working today. Her incredible performances on Industry and Bobies Bodies Bodies should attract more projects soon. She definitely deserves awards and nominations.
this is a double edged sword for me because her and Marisa seem to be, rightly, securing bigger projects so id imagine ndustry will finish with s3/4 (at least in its current form) to allow for them to pursue these. I’m still frustrated this show isn’t being more widely seen, it’s legit one of the best shows on tv.

I can’t see Industry going on more than another season – it just doesn’t have the viewership and yeah they have other projects going on.

I was surprised it even got s3 for that reason

February 1, 2023 at 2:23 pm #1205280050We seriously need more female-led shows getting traction. It’s been years since this Lead Actress field wasn’t so barren
I say this as someone late 30s but I think there aren’t a lot of new performances women over 35 are connecting to (also, I think D’Arcy and Cooke being barely older than the actors that play their sons rubs people the wrong way), plus stuff like Killing Eve ending and The Morning Show missing isn’t helping. I really doubt Moss is missing for that reason, at this point that’s her base.
The one person I’ve noticed people rather like who is not in the conversation but should be is Ann-Marie Duff for Bad Sisters – I would bump her to co-lead or at least get her in the conversation more. Horgan is great but Duff’s character resonates more.

Yeah, I am preparing myself for it being reversed unfortunately. The BBC element is almost certainly its saving grace.
February 1, 2023 at 4:14 pm #1205280144I thought it would be interesting as an exercise to ask what predictions that are currently at 100/1 that people have right now and why?
Mine –
Drama Series: Bad Sisters (Feels like a show that has a really concentrated amount of support, as displayed with its WGA nominations and critics mentions in spite of stiff competition, and I feel like we oftentimes underestimate whether on a restricted or unlimited ballot. Will probably drop it though if The Mandalorian comes back stronger than I’m anticipating it to or it becomes clear that something like Poker Face is on the cusp of a big breakout)
Actress: Tawny Cypress (Drama actress is incredibly barren and she’s on a show voters are familiar with and I am expecting them to continue to be when it comes back next month. The degrees to which they take to the show’s sophomore season, and whether the show itself has a slump or not, obvioisly remain to be seen but at this stage with all the lack of consensus why not throw three Yellowjackets women in?)
Actor: Dominic West (One I do have to really double take seeing how he got blanked at the winter awards but at the same time I’m not sure anyone else in the category makes much sense for me to predict for the last slot? I guess the precedence here is with someone like Jonathan Majors still making it in for a mid tier contender in spite of getting ignored at the winter awards in part due to the lack of consensus in the field and the show’s visibility. My alts at the moment are probably Luna and Rhys if Andor shows any signs the actors branch care about it later in the season and if Perry Mason doesn’t fly under the radar in the Spring.)
S. Actress: Lauren Ambrose (Fits in more with my prediction of going hard on Yellowjackets in the anticipation of it potentially shaking up the series race. She strangely does feel like someone who could potentially have benefitted more from an unlimited ballot though. But at this point I just want to go big or go home.)
S. Actor: Michael Imperioli (Someone a while back made the comparison with The White Lotus : Sicily and Fargo season 2 and Imperioli being the Danson of the show and Sharpe being the Woodbine of the show and I do like that idea because admittedly I don’t sense that there is an overwhelming amount of passion for this performance. Concurrently though I also don’t get the sense that there is much consensus on who the male supporting standout is on the show and a previous Emmy winner, coincidentally in this category, who shares almost all of their screen time with the GG nominated actor who is 1st on the call sheet and looks likely to get nominated could be the beneficiary of that.)
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
February 1, 2023 at 4:24 pm #1205280155I wasn’t sure if the acting branch would embrace Andor before I watched it and now, after finishing it, I’m just as confused. For the record, I loved it and would likely nominate a few of the actors on my own personal ballot, but I really don’t know how voters will take to it.
I feel like guest actor and actress (Serkis and Shaw) are its best bets, and both would be deserving. Luna feels like he’s battling for the last spot in lead and it’s not a traditionally baity role or performance. He’s more of an observer than anything. Skarsgard and O’Reilly would both be deserving in supporting as well but there doesn’t seem to be enough room and the latter’s performance is definitely on the more subtle side.
February 1, 2023 at 6:02 pm #1205280258I have Staunton, D’Arcy, Ramsey, Lynskey, and then some combo of Moss/Lewis/Lyonee for the last slot.

Not sure if it’s on purpose, and I’m in the process of changing stuff, but everything non genre.

I think O’Reilly would be really deserving but I worry about how little press she’s been doing which is disproportionate small compared to how significantly expanded the role is for a woman within Star Wars more broadly (combined with it being very subtle)
February 1, 2023 at 7:12 pm #1205280319I have Jonathan Banks in Supp actor, even tho I think now he is at like 72/1. I got him at 100/1,
