I say this as someone late 30s but I think there aren’t a lot of new performances women over 35 are connecting to (also, I think D’Arcy and Cooke being barely older than the actors that play their sons rubs people the wrong way), plus stuff like Killing Eve ending and The Morning Show missing isn’t helping. I really doubt Moss is missing for that reason, at this point that’s her base.
The one person I’ve noticed people rather like who is not in the conversation but should be is Ann-Marie Duff for Bad Sisters – I would bump her to co-lead or at least get her in the conversation more. Horgan is great but Duff’s character resonates more.
If I could only pick one of the five Bad Sisters to get nominated, easy decision it would be Ann-Marie Duff. Horgan is really really good but Duff has arguably the most difficult character to play in the entire series and pulls it off beautifully for the entire ten episodes.
February 1, 2023 at 8:41 pm #1205280379I have Staunton, D’Arcy, Ramsey, Lynskey, and then some combo of Moss/Lewis/Lyonee for the last slot.
it feels like staunton’s been quickly forgotten, but she could easily be a namecheck just cuz the category is so weak.

It’s a real shame the show didn’t get a SAG ensemble nod. Even the actors playing the smaller characters like Assad Bouab and Michael Smiley were excellent.
I would nominate Horgan, Duff and Bang on my ballot.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
February 2, 2023 at 4:12 am #1205280589I think O’Reilly would be really deserving but I worry about how little press she’s been doing which is disproportionate small compared to how significantly expanded the role is for a woman within Star Wars more broadly (combined with it being very subtle)
She’s probably my MVP (it’s hard because it’s such a good ensemble), but I’m actually pretty confident she’s not making it. Like you said, it’s a very subtle performance and Andor still doesn’t feel like the type of show that gets showered with acting nominations.
She could happen if the Emmys love Andor more than I’m anticipating, and I’d be here for it, but it feels like an uphill battle. It also doesn’t help if The White Lotus is competing here because that’s much more actor friendly and will likely take up 2-3 slots.

Exact same 3 for me, not dismissing the other sisters but those were my MVPs.
FYC:
The HBO darlings everywhere (The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, Perry Mason, White House Plumbers, Love & Death);
The Apple gang (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird);
Poker Face, The Great, The Bear, Evil (especially Katja Herbers) and The Good Fight.Please! These gays, they're trying to murder me!

The show is creepy as fuck. I think it’s clear why industry is not responding so well as social media and online fanbase.
Even GOT stopped doing this kind of thing in late seasons.

Anne-Marie Duff deserves so much more credit for the absolutely devastating turn she pulled off in Bad Sisters. Those tiny moments when you could see the pain, and see her trying to hide it, shove it back down. She made us care and want to help her.
Her performance in Episode 10 is worthy an Emmy nomination.

I don’t think it turned people off. I actually think they didn’t even watched the show. The industry response for HOTD was quiet since episode 1 (the opposite is happening with the Last of Us).
A lot of shows/movies which received awards attention are also creepy.
February 2, 2023 at 6:40 am #1205280664I thought it would be interesting as an exercise to ask what predictions that are currently at 100/1 that people have right now and why?
Predicting 100/1 drama:
Alan Ruck (Succession)
Matthew Rhys (Perry Mason)
Fiona Shaw* (Andor)
Tom Hollander (White Lotus)
Tawny Cypress and Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets)*if they submit her in supporting
Also have Pedro Pascal and The Last of Us but they are definitely happening.

They didn’t watch a spin off of the biggest show of all time ? It was a viewership hit on HBO. Only reason they wouldn’t watch was if they heard something about it that might turn them off.
Yes, it does. You’d be surprised with things that turn voters off. Mindy Kaling tweeted that she didn’t finish watching Triangle of Sadness because… Of the vomit scene. She later deleted the tweet.
I don’t really think so, incest level creepy, 15 year old character marrying her uncle creepy, C-section with no medication creepy. It’s different than something like Succession, which is comedic, Squid Game, which is action packed, or The Handmaid’s Tale, which is based on an Atwood book and it’s not really that grey.
Still think it will show up somewhere above the line, maybe for Matt Smith or a lone nom in Drama Series.

Imagine with House of the Dragon.I don’t really think so, incest level creepy, 15 year old character marrying her uncle creepy, C-section with no medication creepy. So my beloved Interview with the Vampire didn’t have any chance..
February 2, 2023 at 7:01 am #1205280677The reason House of the Dragon has been under-performing is because not everyone wants to commit years of their life to a long-running franchise never mind one that had one of the most polarising final seasons in the history of television. Better Call Saul didn’t catch on until it ended for this very reason in spite of having a built in audience from Breaking Bad. A lot of shows tend to under-perform as they get older and the older they run with awards bodies for similar reasons. Even on a cultural level we’ve been seeing Marvel films have less staying power due to audience fatigue and over-saturatuon.
I actually think that’s also probably why Andor has done fairly well for itself at the guilds because it’s an easy and short show to committ to even if you’re not really into the whole Star Wars thing seeing that the story already has a pin pointed ending.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
February 2, 2023 at 7:05 am #1205280679Yeah I also think fatigue has some play into this.
GoT was the most awarded series of all time right? Voters must be tired and moved on.FYC:
The HBO darlings everywhere (The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, Perry Mason, White House Plumbers, Love & Death);
The Apple gang (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird);
