But then are they ready to call Melanie Lynskey, Bella Ramsey or Imelda Staunton leading ladies yet either though?
Absolutely. Imelda Staunton is an Academy award nominee for Best Leading Actress and a winner of multiple Best Actress in a Leading role Olivier awards. Melanie Lynskey has been building to this moment for years, appearing in supporting roles in prestige projects and Leading roles in critically adored indie films for the past two decades. Bella Ramsey is a rising young star (who isn’t even getting emmy buzz for the first time) who just is unequivocally one of the leads of her series, and just lead a critically acclaimed movie this year.
Coolidge has literally NEVER got any awards attention prior to The White Lotus, and has NEVER been the lead of a mainstream project before (or even to my knowledge an independent one). General audiences only JUST realized that she can do more than they thought, and this isn’t even a new project it’s just the second season playing the same character she already got attention for.
February 2, 2023 at 5:38 pm #1205281609Considering Elizabeth Debicki’s SAG nomination, do you think Netflix should consider changing her submission to Lead Actress?
If The Diplomat’s not making it and Bridgerton isn’t either (which I think is likely, they’ve indicated it’s more likely we get the Queen Charlotte prequel), there’s no reason for them to not run Debicki in co-lead and free up space in supporting.
February 2, 2023 at 5:48 pm #1205281619I think one of them should definitely move up to lead. Sure someone could emerge from the Spring but right now there are several contenders in supporting that have their own strong bases of support (although I don’t think any of them are going to be strong enough to overcome Coolidge’s) whilst in drama actress both the current frontrunners (Lynskey and Staunton) are people who have already lost to Zendaya for a mid tier contender in spite of no one having ever repeated for a lead performance in drama under this voting system before. In Netflix’s case if they move Debicki up they not only are able to fill the vacuum left by Zendaya being ineligible in drama actress but they can also be able to try and get Manville in as a nominee in supporting. In HBO’s case if they move Coolidge up to lead they gain by not only filling in the frontrunner vacuum in drama actress but also by being able to focus on Plaza and Fahy and perhaps potentially even managing to get one of them a win in this category. There’s absolutely nothing to lose for either of them.
or both of them move to lead (which is where they belong anyway) and she wins 🤭
Once there was only Dark. If you ask me, the Light's winning.

February 3, 2023 at 2:54 am #1205281956I’m on a The Old Man binge and Jeff Bridges is definitely deserving of the nominations he’s getting!
FYC:
The HBO darlings everywhere (The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, Perry Mason, White House Plumbers, Love & Death);
The Apple gang (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird);
Poker Face, The Great, The Bear, Evil (especially Katja Herbers) and The Good Fight.Please! These gays, they're trying to murder me!
February 3, 2023 at 3:34 am #1205281974I’m not on board with movimg Coolidge to lead, yes she has the performance and the vehicle but twl doesn’t have a lead, it’s an ensemble show in the core.
February 3, 2023 at 3:35 am #1205281977The last of us will sweep! Series, writing,directing, actor, guest actor and a couple techs wins incoming. bookmark me.
February 3, 2023 at 8:46 am #1205282292Let’s start with Poker Face, which launched Jan. 26 with its first four episodes. What can you say about its performance thus far and what you’ve learned about the Peacock viewer?
It’s performed fantastic. We are over the moon. I know we don’t give numbers —
It’s our 200th episode, give us some numbers!
I can’t right now; hopefully at some point we will be able to but [Poker Face] is definitely punching above its weight. In addition to the actual numbers, we are also over the moon about the critical response.
So how are you planning to capitalize on these three big breakouts?
First, we’re going to continue marketing and promoting the shows as well as having them to be the runway for the shows that are coming. Just like scheduling, we do put shows after Paul T. Goldman and Poker Face. So hopefully people can find more of our originals. There’s going to be a big ad for Poker Face during the Super Bowl, which is exciting. We’re really doubling down on it.
FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I listened to this earlier (also, Bloys is on The Watch)
She more or less said the audience for Girls5Eva was too young for their audience (hence Netflix)

I don’t necessarily think they’ll sweep or anything but I see a lot of people predicting them to win Directing and if they do indeed win there I don’t see why they won’t also win Series
February 3, 2023 at 8:57 am #1205282322I’m all here for the meltdowns if Poker Face is nominated over House of the Dragon!
February 3, 2023 at 1:21 pm #1205282831I’m all here for the meltdowns if Poker Face is nominated over House of the Dragon!
The thing with House of The Dragon is that it wouldn’t be hugely surprising to anyone following awards closely if it was snubbed but the general public/fans (who have a vague idea HoTD won a Globe and understand GoT had awards in its DNA) will probably be shocked.
February 3, 2023 at 2:29 pm #1205282956Anyone know why Poker Face is in drama? Shows like Barry and Atlanta are in comedy and even just looking at Rian Johnson, Knives Out and Glass Onion are very similar in tone to Poker Face and they were always considered comedies. I don’t know if the Emmys will embrace the show as a drama as much as they could if it was in comedy. The only reason I could see is trying to get Natasha Lyonne in the super weak Lead Actress category.

The most deserving show being nominated? No meltdowns needed.
