The Bad Sisters finale…
What an EPISODE!!! Firmly rooting for Anne-Marie Duff for the Emmy (and DEFINITELY the BAFTA) now…
Wow that’s the only episode I DIDN’T like. It was so predictable and anticlimactic. Agree on Anne-Marie Duff though
Emmys FYC:
Comedy: The Bear, Cunk on Earth, Only Murders in the Building, Reservation Dogs
Drama: The Last of Us, Stranger Things
Limited/Movie:
March 23, 2023 at 10:14 pm #1205362051HBO has had just an amazing season. It likely it will have 4 of the 8 nominees for Drama Series. Pretty incredible.

March 23, 2023 at 11:03 pm #1205362067You think House of the Dragon is not getting in? Cause I see Last of Us, Succession, and White Lotus as locks.
I just don’t see what how House of the Dragon can get pushed out of a nomination.
The Mandalorian is one I just don’t see getting nominated this year. I know it got nominated twice in the past, but I am just not seeing it this year.
Yellowstone has never gotten nominated before.
I think these six are for sure going to be nominated:
Succession
The Last of Us
The White Lotus
House of the Dragon
Better Call Saul
The Crown
YellowjacketsWith The Crown and Andor likely being the final 2
March 24, 2023 at 2:28 am #1205362129If Hotd gets in it’s 8th at best…Andor and the crown are definitely above it, depends if Mando can build enough buzz with it’s remaining episodes to get in…with no support from producers, writers or directors it’ll have to rely on techs to push it over the line which I’m personally not predicting with many tech heavy series in contention this year…
March 24, 2023 at 2:56 am #1205362140I just don’t see what how House of the Dragon can get pushed out of a nomination.
It missed every major guild and BAFTA and only won (I think) costumes below the line.
Outside of press, there is no indication it has any more support than say The Rings of Power.
It can get in but it’s notably undeperformed comparative to GoT.
March 24, 2023 at 5:09 am #1205362191And even the Costume win could be argued that it’s triumph was part luck of the category and Jany Temime standing within the industry.
March 24, 2023 at 8:12 am #1205362318Alan Sepinwall posted his review of Yellowjackets Season 2. Funnily enough, he agrees with the Hollywood Reporter’s review on just about everything: the flashbacks and Lynskey, Lewis and Ricci’s performances being the best thing about the season, while the weakest parts for him are the storylines of Taissa and the cult, the secondary characters in the flashbacks being forgettable, and the fact that Lynskey and Ricci seem to be in two completely different series from the rest of the show.
March 24, 2023 at 11:23 am #1205362527A lot of reviews have positive things to say about Warren Kole as Jeff, and I’ve seen multiple site him as a surprise fan favorite from season 1 who it sounds like has more to do in season 2. Maybe a supporting actor play if the show continues to do well?
Probably depends on if Elijah Wood is in enough episodes to get bumped up to supporting as he’s obviously the much bigger name.
And PERSONALLY, I’ve never really minded that different subplots on the show have such different tones. If anything for my own personal enjoyment that’s been a feature rather than a bug.
March 24, 2023 at 11:29 am #1205362538Obviously not suggesting this neccessarily means that it won’t be able to get into those categories at the Emmys or that its misses are a death-knell to its chances but I find House of the Dragon‘s editing and cinematography snubs at BAFTA with the below the line membership quite interesting. The Crown and Andor both got into the former even in spite of The Crown‘s editing not being traditionally baity and the latter got in a different episode to the one it got at ACE. Likewise it did very well at both the American Society of Cinematographers and the British Society of Cinematogaphers guilds.
All three of these shows have shown weaknesses throughout the guild season but I think there’s a clear pattern of difference between how shows like Andor and The Crown have been performing and how something like House of the Dragon has. There are varying degrees of passion with both of the former (with Andor being a show people seem to either absolutely love or just isn’t really their cup of tea and The Crown being a show people seem to either still really like or just respect but don’t really care so much about) but they’ve both shown themselves to be able to get nominated into categories and at places where they don’t really have that strong a base in when there has been a complete turnover in competition. House of the Dragon on the other hand has not been able to do that, missing a WGA nomination for a show that has passion but is underseen like Bad Sisters and missing out at certain craft guilds for other genre shows.
There’s no doubt that there are some people who really like House of the Dragon (it still has done reasonably well with the craftspeople at the guilds and the Globe win has to speak for something, even if it probably wouldn’t have won there if The White Lotus wasn’t competing in limited). But I also think it’s becoming increasingly clear that the show has been under-performing as a result of apathy and not there being too much competition for it to overcome. It would be foolish to count it out from getting the 8th slot in drama series when there’s no consensus around whether there is an 8th show strong enough to block it and it’s quite possible that the Television Academy disproportionately favours it compared to other bodies. But I think if it does manage to get that last slot in the series race it would speak more to just how weak the other shows contending for that spot are.

It NEEDS to be their writing submission. One of the episodes of the year.

March 24, 2023 at 12:55 pm #1205362692I know that nobody is watching but Billy Crudup is amazing in Hello Tomorrow and would honestly be a amazing winner.
March 24, 2023 at 12:59 pm #1205362699Adding into the predictions center for drama:
ECHO 3 (Apple)
Actor: Luke Evans, Michiel Huisman
Actress: Jessica Ann Collins
March 24, 2023 at 1:08 pm #1205362713Awards Daily’s predictions:
1. Succession
2. The White Lotus: Sicily
3. Yellowjackets
4. The Last of Us
5. House of the Dragon
6. Better Call Saul
7. The Crown
8. The MandalorianI do not agree with his ranking…
March 24, 2023 at 1:13 pm #12053627205. House of the Dragon
6. Better Call Saul
7. The CrownWhat is up with the media being so unaware about House of the Dragon, it flopped with a major F at the guilds and it’s above BCS who was nominated by pretty much all of them? And The Crown who got SAG and WGA as well? Like, two minutes of research would prevent these type of predictions.
