I would nominate O’Reilly, Skarsgård, Serkis and Shaw btw, so I am hoping it overperforms with the acting branch on nomination morning.
March 26, 2023 at 5:15 am #1205364140I think it can get into series, writing and directing without any acting nominations, but I am expecting it to get into guest actor and actress (if Shaw is pushed there). I don’t think I see it for Luna, but he is in 6-8 range for me right now. He’s good but I feel like the role requires him to observe more than react if that makes any sense. Rhys is my #6 atm.
I get what you’re saying but Is there any precedent for such a performance…We get shows that get only into acting all the time but a show that gets into series, writing and directing without no ATL acting nominations doesn’t seem too common..Even Mando correct me if I’m wrong got into series but missed both writing and directing…

they got one directing and two writing noms in 2021 (tho that was an atypical year)

The Boys got series and writing with no acting nominations, What We Do In Th Shadows has too. It’s not impossible that a degree of misalignment occurs and it makes sense in the case of Andor where the acting style is very particular.
March 26, 2023 at 6:02 am #1205364173I see your point but neither got into directing…Also those examples were under the unlimited ballot where 2 series can hug 80% of the nominees especially in the supporting categories, See Lasso and Succession…it’ll be interesting to see what happens under a limited ballot
March 26, 2023 at 6:03 am #1205364175There is Succession S1 and multiple seasons of Silicon Valley as precedents for Andor.
Plus Andor can easily miss directing so it can be just techs+writing+series for it.
A Negroni. Sbagliato. With Prosecco in it.

It’s also the sort of year where a whole range of series are a bit weak so it is quite likely something is getting in with a relatively modest combination of support, it’s just picking what support.
March 26, 2023 at 8:55 am #1205364240I really hope House of the Dragon surprises us all with a plethora of major nominations. Miguel S, Ryan Condal, Paddy, D’Arcy, Cooke and Smith all deserve.
They delivered a fine season and tbh “The Lord of the Tides”, “The Black Queen” and “Driftmark” are easily highlights in the Game of Thrones universe.

I agree. I enjoyed the show and was to disappointed to see it get shot down at the guilds .
March 26, 2023 at 10:21 am #1205364339This is random, but how do we think Yellowjackets will fare at SAG this year? Last season it was ignored but that could be chalked up to the weird airing schedule and it hadn’t fully caught on at the time of voting. As far as I can see, Sarah Snook and Bella Ramsey are really the only ones from this Emmy cycle who could realistically get nominated. As for the second half of the year, that could be very unpredictable, but I don’t think it’d be crazy to suggest Lynskey and Ricci, and possibly even Lewis getting in if they go all in on it.
March 26, 2023 at 12:07 pm #1205364458I’m thinking Lynskey only and even then it will depend on how strong Yellowjackets end up being. The acting is way too subdued for SAG and they don’t like subdued and “weird” style of acting imo.

March 26, 2023 at 12:11 pm #1205364466If Russell is a thing then she’s getting nominated at SAG too especially considering there will be at least one Netflix contender.
Aniston and Witherspoon will be back too.

And we will be rooting for her.

Ensembles with no clear consensus standout tend to do poorly in the individual acting categories there (as seen with Big Little Lies season 2 only getting ensemble and The White Lotus only getting the ensemble and Coolidge and no one else this year) and Yellowjackets feels like a show that is even more split in consensus.
Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!
