Does anyone else fear that the finale is going to be really divisive? 💀

Anything other than an emphatic Cousin Greg victory and downfall of the remaining cast will feel short changing lol

While I don’t think the finale will be divisive as an episode, per se (I have faith in Jesse Armstrong and the rest of the writers to pull off one hell of a season finale once again), I do think that people will be divided on it as an ending for a show. I’ve read a couple of interviews with the cast, and apparently while some of the cast members were like “oh, there really can’t be more of this show”, others were like “oh, so we’re totally getting a Season 5.” Additionally, a lot of the talk about the show’s ending from the cast members is making it come across as more of an ambiguous kind of ending, where it’s not 100% clear where each character ends up by the end and left more up to audience interpretation as to where they would “go” from there. So from that, I have a feeling the show’s finale will be somewhat similar to the other season finales, where something (or several somethings!) “shocking” or “momentous” happens that will definitely shake up the character dynamics and trajectories moving forward, but unlike the other season finales, we won’t move forward.

Not really, people would probably be upset about their faves not winning over the rest. But it feels like whatever happens in the end is in the realm of possibilities that no one would be truly shocked.

    1. Logan wins = not shocking because he’s proved to be the most competent Roy
    2. His children win = the kids win over their father, not really shocking because the entire show has been about it.
    3. The Roy’s get kicked out of the company = after the whole mess the family is, it could happen as well.
    4. Logan retires after his kids proved they have the guts to fight = kind of like the typical rich dad who leaves everything to his spoiled rich kids because they did one thing right.
    5. Tom and Greg win = people have been rooting for them because they are actually nice people.

    Fandoms aren’t logical though.

all of these would be great tbh

also most people thought the GoT finale was a mess and they still won the Emmy, so I still think Succession is no1

In theory you could argue that both the season 2 and especially season 3 finales of Succession could have served as great series finales for the show. Part of its selling point is the fact that it has this long overarching plot where nothing is ever really certain and where one day you can get stabbed in the back by your sister the other you can reign triumphant on hubris mountain whilst all your obstacles and opponents are on a cliff edge. So similar to what LittleLucky stated above it would make a lot of sense to me of season 4 of Succession had a similarly structured ending to seasons 2 and 3 but without there being a chance of redemption for certain characters (or rather an opportunity for them to take revenge seeing what show this is lol).

I believe Armstrong always stated that the end game for the show was to go for four to five seasons. Quite a number of British dramas (and shows in general) tend to pretty much end until further notice (or when a broadcaster wants to recommission it for another run or its showrunner wants to pitch another installment) and obviously that is where Armstrong has his roots as a writer so my guess is they probably just decided to end the show as they were making season 4 with an idea of how the Roys’ story ends lingering in their mind.

Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!

I know Armstrong said it was always the plan but idk
    Everything feels so rushed.

agreed, I suspect Cox wants out and they don’t want to do it without him
