People here give a lot more credit to Juliette Lewis than she deserves. I don’t see her getting a nomination.

Whether they do or not you can’t deny that she’s an Oscar and Emmy nominated actress in a likely drama series nominee. With this barren drama actress field she could be an easy name-check if voters are stuck when filling out their ballots.

Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!

I’m going to watch episode 4 tonight I think, I’m interested to see where Shauna’s 1996 plot goes, but I have high hopes for Lewis considering I have LOVED her material so far. So much depth to her character imo, she has some really good material this season. Her storyline is my favourite I think.

I don’t see Lewis benefiting a lot from this, since she is got strong competition on both scenarios.

If a voter has one vote to give and is a fan of Yellowjackets, he can also go for Cypress, since, apparently, there is no clear consensus between her and Lewis, and now, he can even go for Nélisse, all that assuming he already voted for Linskey.

Also, if the voter is not a fan of anything and is gonna cast a vote based on status in the industry, I assume, at least, Mirren, Swank, Basset and Baranski would be ahead of Lewis.

You think Angela Bassett is ahead of Lewis for a show that’s never even been nominated?

When it comes to status in the industry, yes.

Status in the industry is not as important at the Emmys as it is at most other awards shows. Sure it can help in certain situations, but Helen Mirren missed out a few years ago for the Catherine the Great HBO series, and so have superstars like Julia Roberts (multiple times recently!), Jessica Chastain (immediately post Oscar win!), Viola Davis, Olivia Colman, Anne Hathaway, and Samuel L. Jackson, all just last year alone.

Being a well-liked figure can give you a small boost, but if you’re on a badly received or underseen show, no amount of superstar quality can save you.

FYC: Bad Sisters (Anne-Marie Duff) Cunk on Earth (Diane Morgan), Fleishman Is in Trouble (Lizzy Caplan/Claire Danes), Industry (Marisa Abela/Myha'la Herrold), Physical (Rose Byrne), Poker Face (Ellen Barkin/Joseph Gordon-Levitt/Chloë Sevigny), The White Lotus (Sabrina Impacciatore)

Yeah Angela Bassett getting in for 9-1-1 bc of star power is almost impossible. Juliette Lewis is on a proven Emmy-friendly show and definitely could be a name check. Definitely ahead of Bassett in any scenario.

Just to clarify, I’m not saying Mirren, Swank, Basset and Baranski are going to get in based on namecheck, just that, if a voter has to resort to namechecking and already voted for everything he watched, he would probably go for them before Lewis.

Basically, if namechecking ends up deciding who is gonna get nominated in this category, I don’t think many of them will be going to Lewis, since she is not the only or the clear choice between Yellowjackets lead actresses and, probably, wouldn’t be the first, second, third of forth choice from voters who already casted the votes they wanted to give and are now going by status in the industry.

Significant difference in personalities too which makes a massive difference, most of the names you mention play the game and don’t ruffle feathers.
That is not Lewis – couple of examples but there are many

“The thing is, I want to play real characters and not all girls can be pretty. The thing is, you get these girls who say ‘I’m a character actor’ then you see them in a role and nothing has really changed but the outfit.”

“I don’t want to be famous as a movie star and have the whole world love me, I want to be a creative actress.”

Natural Born Killers was banned in the UK for years, we had to watch it on bootleg VHS. Mallory Knox was the sh*t

Add in long term prior religious affiliations – Moss kept quiet whereas Lewis always speaks her mind

you can see why that may be the case lol

Helen Mirren wouldn’t even be a namecheck, her show is being watched and she got a large praise for it. It would be unprecedentedly since Yellowstone related things tends to flop with NATAS, but there’s a first for everything

He lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see.

I agree Mirren wouldn’t be nominated only because of it, but anyone can be namechecked. Every year we see anonymous ballots from voters claiming they didn’t watch anything or almost anything and are just voting for people they like.

I don’t think Bassett is happening, a 6th season of a network procedural that’s never been nominated prior (even it’s spin-off Lone Star has gotten a VFX nom), like cmon now.

The last time a show period got its first Primetime nom period four or more seasons deep was Schitt’s Creek, a once in a generation phenomenon due to extenuating circumstances. Whilst the new procedural to get an acting nomination was Simon Baker for the first season of The Mentalist. I’m purposefully excluding The Good Wife and ShondaLand ABC shows, since those weren’t case of the week in a traditional sense and carried by the unanimous praise for the former, and the still giddy aspect of movie actors doing television at the time.

However, I do think she will finish in a top 12 of overall votes. The network block of the branch can still help to carry a show, just obviously not as much without wider academy support, and both those whom regularly watched 911 and just need a namecheck vote on their ballot, will likely still check her off as she’s the one of the first to appear on half of the ballots.

One final thing, the amount of projects she’s managed to get herself nominated for recently, and her industry status (especially as of late), the moment she gets she appears in a top Series nominee she is absolutely winning the Emmy.

…based on what exactly? Nothing about what you’re saying makes much sense lol.

Voters could easily just vote for Lewis because they love Yellowjackets and are fans of her performance. In fact, that’s much more likely than voters opting to check off Bassett or Swank because they’ve “run out” of options. It’s 6 slots not 15 lol.

That’s the situation that was being discussed, wasn’t it? That’s exactly what Wofali said and I replied to: the voters that are stuck because they don’t have six votes to cast.

In my mind, those are either going for a performance they are not passionate about on a show they like (if it is Yellowjackets, Lewis is got competition from Linskey, Cypress and Nélisse) or simply vote on status within the industry (then Mirren, Swank, Basset and Baranski and possibly others would be ahead of Lewis when it comes to getting those votes, not to be nominated).

That’s why I said I don’t see her capitalizing on namechecking.
