i was looking back at the beginning of this year predictions and everyone was totally off it’s funny to know that 80% of the people and tv shows that were predicted didn’t make it, it probably will happen again in 2023
Purely my opinion but I think people (myself included especially in this category) get too caught up on prestige and names and hopedicting and not what there’s any anticipation for, or what streamers/networks are confident in miles before it’s released.
Like if I go back to unreleased shows in November last year it’s….Pam and Tommy, Inventing Anna, and Station Eleven in the top 5 most searched limited (as well two shows that happened BTL). Limited series don’t need to be mega-hits but they do need to make some sort of impact and the streamers/networks need to have a degree of confidence in pushing them, especially if they’re not hyper-visible, like Netflix or Sunday-night HBO shows.
I know for me the tastes of voters are frequently more…tabloid-y than I’d prefer (I was so annoyed about Maid last year) – but they are what they are.

I don’t know. I think the bottom has dropped out of the audience desire for limited series. There’s some decent contenders but I’m not necessarily convinced too many of them are screaming obvious frontrunner. Brayden’s suggestions are are around the mark. I don’t agree with all of them but it feels a realistic guess on what is likely to gather traction. Something like Black Bird seems likely to be able to hold on to at least acting noms given what’s upcoming I think.

Yep. It’s not necessarily exhaustive and sometimes shows need a bit of a promo push to get in to the public eye but shows that people are actively tracking (whether it be because of an interest in HBO shows, an actor they’re excited to see do TV, or pre-existing media) always have a leg-up because they’re going to be there on day 1 spreading buzz.
I also hate to say it but the reason this – and at least a base level of viewership – is important is nearly every online press outlet runs on clicks and views to some extent. If people aren’t interested they either won’t cover it or they’ll just use their press as a way to trojan horse in questions with buzzy actors about other projects. There are a few exceptions the press or critics will champion but not a lot.
