TV Movie right?
December 21, 2022 at 11:24 am #1205204479So we are right about Danes delivering in the final episodes. Rolling Stones in their TOP episodes list:
“Me Time” technically won’t premiere until December 22, but we couldn’t leave it off the list. No spoilers, other than to say these two things: 1) It finally shows the events of the miniseries, and of the Fleishman marriage, from the perspective of Rachel Fleishman, clarifying a lot of what happened both before and after she seemed to go missing from the life of her ex-husband and children; 2) It is the Fleishman creative team getting every last cent of their money’s worth from casting Claire Danes in what to this point has been a pretty small role. Brace yourselves. “

First look at Issa López’s ‘TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY’, starring Jodie Foster, Kali Reis, Christopher Eccleston and Fiona Shaw.

True Detective with Jodie Foster is for sure getting the Sunday slot, so probably for fall 2023.
I just saw the HBO video and I’m really really curious about Love & Death, that’s a role that can really give Olsen a lot of things because it’s so baity.
Also, Claire Danes again lol.

I’m taking a wild ass prediction here:
1. The White Lotus
2. Dahmer
3. Masters of the Air
4. Love and Death
5. White House Pumblers
6. The Crowded Room
7. Daisy Jones
I’m pretty confident about Masters of the Air. Love and Death and Daisy Jones will obviously be popular, we can get something good out of White House Pumblers and The Crowded Room has fantastic directors.
The ones that I’m not that confident until it gets released is Pumblers and Crowded Room.
Apple TV will definitely drop Black Bird for Masters of Air and The Crowded Room if it goes well.
I’m not sure if Dahmer will keep its hype until May, and the whole TWL situation is still unclear. We’ll only know when the deadline ends.

I agree they aren’t trending and consistent/steady or high as some of the other over time. Crowded Room is pretty solid for an Apple show, though (which don’t tend to trend very high) and they tend to build, so I’d be reasonably confident.
White House is a bit low for a HBO show. I’d have to check but it sort of reminds me of stuff like The Gilded Age and Winning Time last year. The numbers look fine but the inherent high interest just isn’t there (whether it’s because that period’s been done to death or it’s just not compelling to younger audiences) so it’ll need to be a really compelling take.
The Fukunaga situation is my big concern with Masters. It just depends on how Apple handles it.

I think Dahmer needs to get Peters in at SAG or win at the Globes to keep momentum.

I think Peters will get it but Dahmer won’t. If this does happen we’re going to have a list of nominees with just one true crime show which I particularly think is fantastic

I tend to be overly pessimistic about the things that I’m excited for, The Crowded Room has Kornel Mundruczo and Alan Taylor on the directors seat and Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried as the lead stars, it’s my most anticipated show of 2023 so I’m keeping my expectations very low 😭 also, it’s the only show out of these slots that doesn’t have a preview yet, not even a first look, everything is being kept tightly locked

December 21, 2022 at 11:23 pm #1205205615In addition to Rolling Stone, NYT also listed this coming episode of Fleishman on its best episodes of TV 2022 list and highlighting Danes’ performance:
Fleishman Is in Trouble’ (FX on Hulu)
Season 1, Episode 7: ‘Me-Time’This limited series worked hard to re-create the pyrotechnics of Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s 2019 novel, from the upside-down shots that mimicked the topsy-turvy imagery of the book cover to a copious use of voice-over. (Brodesser-Akner, who created the series and wrote this episode, is a staff writer for The New York Times Magazine.) Here, it pulled off the novel’s signature reversal — telling the title character’s divorce story from the perspective of his wife — using the tools of the screen, in particular a wrenching performance by Claire Danes, an emotional volcano who has rarely erupted better. (Streaming on Hulu.)
December 22, 2022 at 12:30 am #1205205642I will be shocked it Peters misses SAG, i don’t even see him losing at this point, competition is just not there.
Globes is another story but even there, they love Ryan Murphy and it might be Dahmer’s only win for the night.

It does feel like the kind of show that will accrue fans in the coming months and that creatives will devour, even if it isn’t the biggest mass audience hit. I thought the Golden Globes and Critics Choice nominations for Claire Danes (and only Claire Danes, might I add) were just namechecks, but after this week’s episode, it certainly seems possible people were watching and took notice of her performance organically. As to why it would be the only nomination for this show, my first instinct IS namechecking, but in this case it works. She had a good showcase in episode three, but this episode recontextualized most of her exposure thus far on the show. Taffy Brodesser-Akner is deserving of attention for her writing as well. I haven’t read the book, but after the first two episodes were released, I ordered it to read when the season is finished because you can clearly see her writing style as it is on the page, and seeing how she adapted it for the screen is honestly masterful. I do ultimately wonder if eight episodes was too long, but I’ve really enjoyed the tangents that the length has allowed. Jesse Eisenberg has been consistently great and reshaping our view of him as a now firmly adult actor, Lizzy Caplan finally is getting the role she has deserved post-“Masters of Sex,” Adam Brody has been a delightful and calming presence, and even Josh Radnor has been having some standout moments in his small doses. I think the end of the year release probably hurt some of its buzz, but I’m hoping the show can sustain some kind of buzz because it is a unique show that is deserving of this kind of attention. The surface level reading of the show betrays the actual themes that reflect more directly to some other buzzy TV titles in recent years, and I hope viewers stick around to pick up on that.
