I think there may be the jolts you mention still to come. It feels like part of what is happening is there isn’t as much information about March/April/May release dates – though that’s based on impression, not going back to look at last year’s announcement dates.

I think we’d at least had more first looks (if not trailers) and I think (generally) there was just a bit more high profile stuff expected. A lot of film actors had done TV over the pandemic. I also think people are a……..bit more burnt out after last year…all that speculation and so many big names… for them to basically zero in on a couple of shows.

well, the gp found inventing anna fun but gd remains bitter about its awards attention.

Things can be bad and fun. Example: Nine Perfect Strangers
    Inventing Anna was just bad.

He lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see.
Into the water, into the truth, in your reflection, he lives in you.

I’m so out of the limited series race this year. I’ll check out The English this weekend. Also not that I’m expecting awards for her from it, but I hope Extrapolations is good/gives Keri Russell something interesting to do. I miss her on my screen.

Omg a fellow Keri stan! I remember her character description for that one was a gun for hire so it sounds like a fun role, even though I’m expecting 15 min of screentime at most lol.

Things can be bad and fun. Example: Nine Perfect Strangers Inventing Anna was just bad.

Both were flat out bad. Nine Perfect Strangers was the definition of a chore. Everyone was at their worst.

In other news, I finally watched The English and, while I’m not too high on the series itself (I still enjoyed it), I thought Blunt was incredible. Should be a lock for a nomination, considering the state of that category + the SAG nom.

It’s interesting because both Nine Perfect Strangers and Inventing Anna were bad but Nine Perfect Strangers was bad in the sense that I actually ended up watching it as a parody and really enjoying it whilst I was slowly dying inside waiting for Inventing Anna to finish.

Not sure whether that makes the former worse than the latter or vice-versa lol.

I think though “bad” is subjective though. I personally didn’t like Inventing Anna but it was clear to me a lot of people did (I wish I’d had the sense to predict it for series last year based on that instead of just Garner). There a group of people who really enjoy that Shondaland style and a pretty sizeable group of people who adore Garner.

I feel like in prognosticating we need to take ourselves out of it. The question’s less “do I like this” and more “is there a group of people that like this?”

A lot of people didn’t at the same time though.

Vice versa for me. I found Inventing Anna to be trashy but at least mildly interesting and parody-feeling (especially that accent). Nine Perfect Strangers on the other hand felt like a complete slog to me. I don’t even know why I bothered finishing it. I was checked out mentally really early on.

Sure, but the viewership pattern defied that and 20 million people watched it   And I’m in my late 30s (which I gather is quite a bit older than a lot of people on these boards) and I get who the audience for that show is even if I am not it. (also Facebook is a pretty good guide for Netflix and network and general older opinions. Not cool, but much more likely to making Sheryl Lee Ralph viral as opposed to Joseph Quinn from ST).

I mean, Miss Ana De Armas can get an Oscar nom for a movie with 5.5 on imdb so a lot of people hating something doesn’t matter if enough people watch it on netflix for there to be a good number of fans.

The Power with Toni Colette and Toheeb Jimoh debuts on Prime in March

Book is better than it sounds on paper. This has been in and out of production since pre-pandemic with some cast changes (presumably because of that) so no idea how it turns out.

Inventing Anna is a mistery, you can say that it had the GP attention but i’ve never heard of it until a gossip website posted about it, it was not seen enough and it is debatable to say with such a certain that the GP liked it because the RT and MC audience reviews are bad.

Something that didn’t have the critics support but the audience liked it was Dahmer, the numbers are there and we can say that it’s the GP’s pick, now… Inventing Anna? I guess we’ll never know

0.4 for its regular premiere. Meh for Accused.

I have noticed delayed/DVR viewing (as opposed to streaming) is really high of late (I guess people’s interest is high but urgency isn’t?). I don’t necessarily live somewhere where DVRs are a big thing so it strikes me as a bit odd, but you can see it in HBO numbers as well. House of The Dragon’s linear + streaming was way less than their totals reported which suggests the rest is DVR/delayed).
