I would be living for Judy Greer’s career renaissance C’mon guys, let’s give her the Jennifer coolidge treatment.

I like Judy Greer and I’m hoping she picks up a nomination, but sight unseen I currently have Lena Headey ahead of her for White House Plumbers. For a few reasons:

Headey hasn’t missed a nomination at the Emmy’s (when eligible) since 2013. Greer has no major industry nominations so far.

Headey has higher billing/slight more prominence in the trailer.

On paper her role sounds marginally more baity.

But I think if it’s a success, WHP has the potential to pick up numerous nominations across multiple categories and I’d include Greer in that.

Crafts alone should carry Daisy Jones And The Six to a Series nomination. It’s also appealing to multiple demographics so that can only help. Meanwhile, I can see Fleishman performing similarly to Maid or Station Eleven, writing and/or directing nom and an acting nomination (Danes) but miss Series. As for Swarm, I don’t see a Series nomination happening. And I hope this won’t be taken in the wrong way, as I think she’s very deserving performance wise, but there’s a lack of poc options in those categories and I think that helps Fishback. Unlike Oscars, Emmys nominations have always been diverse so I fail to see all white line ups.

And it’s also one of the reasons I think Swarm itself can get a limited series nomination. POC might make up a minority of the voting body, but if a very large percentage get behind this on a limited ballot (along with presumably some white voters too) it might be enough. And obviously there’s nothing wrong with POC gravitating towards stories that focus them. A lot of the predictions across various categories lack diversity in different ways (imo) to an extent I feel is a little too extreme to represent the entire voting body.

Hun, that’s because she was always contending for GoT. This argument is irrelevant, sorry.

I think the HBO of it, a previous nomination and the barren field are relevant but the five nominations aren’t given Headey has never otherwise been on the awards track and seemed largely ambivalent to the process when she was on GoT.

Greer is delightful but she’s been eligible for 23243343 projects and has never been nominated so I’m not sure why she’s got 6x the predictions of Merritt Wever who has actually won an Emmy.

Considering some of us are thinking Monster won’t have enough respect to win Series, what else can win if Love & Death ends up flopping? At least last year we had The White Lotus and Dopesick as the clear top 2, but this time around I have no idea.

I laugh at how much in the toilet the rest of that casts careers are outside of Lena. Literally no one from the final season went on to be on anything.

    IMDB is free.

Hun, that’s because she was always contending for GoT. This argument is irrelevant, sorry.

Aside from Dinklage (who obviously did significantly better there) Headey was the only GoT actor consistently nominated without getting dropped in various years and one of only 3 nominated in the days before the show became a drama winning juggernaut. GoT itself  really wasn’t a guarantee of an acting nomination until the final seasons under the unlimited ballot (which benefited it), so she wasn’t nominated purely for just being in GoT.

This might not mean a huge amount on its own, but compared to Greer who is currently without any industry nominations,I think it gives her (along with my other points) an edge with WHP currently unseen. Obviously if Greer gives a much better performance in a meatier role that gets flipped, but that’s an if at this moment in time versus the facts of prior nominations.

Like I said, I’d like to see Greer nominated and think she can be, I’m just not sure this project will give her that Coolidge moment you mentioned. Happy to be proven wrong!

Although she’s not in the predictions center, I think Kiernan Shipka also has the possibility of a nomination for White House Plumbers. There’s some potentially meaty scenes for her depending on how much of her family story they cover and she was given billing on the trailer.

Oh I totally think Headey should be ahead of Greer, and your rationale is fair on Headey (I don’t necessarily tend to subscribe to other nominees only getting in due to GoT or otherwise HoTD would have gotten in easy at winter).

Lena Headey is literally the only actor from the dragon show that could act outside of Peter and thats why she is so acclaimed plus she is a movie star. I laugh at how much in the toilet the rest of that casts careers are outside of Lena.

Literally no one from the final season went on to be on anything. She is winning this in a landslide after that child stole her Emmys.

GOT S8 failed her in every possible way and she did not deserve to win for that season, Garner devoured her competition that year.

Lena’s career hasn’t been big post GOT either. While she’s a great actress, the confidence in Plumbers is a mix of her talent, her overdueness and hopedicting that the Emmys will care for it to reward her. But the show is coming so late that it could be a massive mess and be ignored.

Hun, Julia Garner stole nobody’s Emmys. She outacts 98% of the GoT cast with ease. And that’s coming from a huge fan of Headey’s work in GoT, who undoubtedly should’ve at least won once for an 8-year-long true masterclass in acting. It’s just that Headey was a guest star in S8 even though a single look of hers was more than enough to justify a nomination in my book.

This. Heady Cult always baffled me. She was a good meme. Seen better performances. Had nothing to do in Season 8 but sip wine cause memeers loved it so much. Turner has always been awful and Williams was too self-aware by that point and phoned it in. She was good as a kid and then her acting went south. Garner deserved her win.

Re: Amazon submission. Not impressed with either Daisy or Swarm. The former was boring af though the finale stuck the landing. The latter was entertaining but too weird and not what you’d expect from the premise. It felt like Dahmer without cannibalism. Also, WTF was that ending? Kinda like they didn’t know how to wrap it up. Both shows have superior acting to the shows themselves. I could see acting nomds but Best Limited for either only if the field is totally barren.

I’m not predicting a win for Headey as it stands (I have Danes, Nash and Wever ahead of her). But that’s in part because I’m finding it hard to gauge how much of a showcase White House Plumbers will be for the actors outside of Harrelson and Theroux.

I do however see Headey as HBO’s main push in her category. But obviously that’s without having watched either WHP or L&D.

Predicting this category will become a lot easier once HBO plays their hand.
