I think having Rachel Weisz playing double is just too good to pass, even if the show is mixed I’m pretty sure she’ll get acclaimed and get in.

In theory even triple nominated with him also guesting on the second season of Good Omens.

Because of Dahmer or because you are rooting for a corporation over a corporation?
March 29, 2023 at 5:45 pm #1205368606There’s been some chatter of how it’s Chastain’s to lose if Olsen and Weisz flop but I actually feel like Dominique Fishback is emerging as quite a strong, more Emmy friendly, alternative in that category already. I think the nomination is the hurdle.

I’d be amazed if Damher doesn’t win. I know industry and critics are more important when it comes to the emmys but the viewing numbers are just so large compared to everything else

Dahmer is not even the most watched show domestically (The Watcher is) and Obi-Wan is not very far behind it. People confuse Netflix’s overall numbers with their domestic ones.

not that I am saying you are wrong but where is that data from, I can see that Dahmer had 41 days in top 10 at Netflix (345 points) and the watcher 35 days (252 points). The peak for watcher must have been huge compared to Dahmer if that is the case
Dahmer finished No 7 on 2022 streaming (originals) behind stranger things, ozark, Wednesday, Cobra Kai, Bridgerton and Virgin River! Of course most of the top 6 had multiple series to operate off.
I should add I have no horse in the race as I have not seen either, not my thing
March 29, 2023 at 7:14 pm #1205368671If the winner was determined by being most popular, drama would be a two way battle between HotD and TLOU and Wednesday would win comedy. Neither of these things are going to happen. So no reason to assume the most watched limited series has to win either.

Of course which is why I said industry and critics are more important. The difference in limited just feels so much greater to some of its predicted competition is what I meant although fair point on Wednesday vs the Comedy Shows (I don’t really see Wednesday as a comedy). I think the drama contenders all have decent viewerships
If my maths is correct 24.5 million households in the us watched Dahmer. That’s an awful lot for a currently predicted no 1 contender
I have no idea how many minutes the standard No 1 shows on Amazon rack up as you only really see Amazon data when a really big show like lotr or the boys are on the Nielsen report. Lord of the rings seemed to be about 16.8 million household in 2022 in the US

It’s from me comparing Nielsen (old data here), I am the type of person who tends to not always take stuff at face value in terms of the way they are are presented. I wish someone in the press would do a more mathematical breakdown of these things.
aka For Netflix’s biggest first season debuts
Dahmer:
Nielsen Charted Weeks: 3658m+4370m+1108m+599+534 = 10.089m minutes/536 minutes = 18.8m completed views equivalent.
The Watcher:
Nielsen: 2355+2595+1234+636+409 = 7.229m minutes/327 minutes = 22.1m completed views equivalent
Wednesday:
Nielsen: 5336+3335+2157+1797+1660+1033+810+711+527+415+357+325+284 = 24,725 minutes/408 minutes = 60.6m completed views equivalent
Inventing Anna (last year)
(you get the picture) = 10770/593 minutes = 18.16m completed views equivalent
Obi Wan = 4.259m/279 minutes = 15.26m completed views equivalent
Squid Game = 14.246/490 minutes = 29m
I should note there is data for later weeks it didn’t chart in the year end wrap Nielsen put out where Obi-Wan and The Watcher aren’t included because of their brevity, so I haven’t used it because I can’t do a like for like.
The US/international difference is sort of illustrative if you go to the Netflix top 10. Dahmer’s final week on Nielsen was the fifth of its seven weeks on the Netflix chart (@69m hours), in week 7 you can see it charts in 63 other countries but not the US.
The Watcher on the other hand charts for all five weeks and you can see in the last week that it is only charting in the US, parts of Europe/UK, and Turkey.
The big difference between Dahmer and The Watcher appears to be that the latter was weaker in South America, Asia, and the big non UK Euro markets (Germany, France, Italy).
Squid Game is still narrowly a bigger hit internationally vs Wednesday on completed views, but only marginally (5-10%) but Wednesday was doubly as strong in the US and Squid Game was obviously v. strong in Asia.
