If Lena Headey gets nominated for White House Plumbers, could we please get Hannah Waddingham to present her category? I need to see this reunion.

March 31, 2023 at 2:01 pm #1205370858I’m confused about the performance of Black bird… it’s one of the most watched limited series this cycle, has universal acclaim from critics and was well received by audiences, has an Emmy win all but secured with a likely lead actor nomination in tow but it seems to be a dud outside acting missing key guilds…It got double nominations at SAG only to miss ensemble, what do we think is the problem?
March 31, 2023 at 2:24 pm #1205370878only to miss ensemble
Ensemble for limited series doesn’t exist.

March 31, 2023 at 5:38 pm #1205370975Black Bird is more or less the type of commercial film star led crime mini-series we get every year that everyone enjoys but doesn’t neccessarily feel overwhelmingly passionate about (outside of say the performances). In most years I’d say it would be easily out based on its guild performance but with how the field in series is looking right now I’ve actually recently just started predicting it for the 5th slot. Will probably drop it if Dead Ringers lands or Tiny Beautiful Things ends up being a hit (I already have both Love & Death and White House Plumbers).

March 31, 2023 at 5:48 pm #1205370983Is Apple TV very popular in the US? There are only around 1.5 million users in the Uk. As such did Blackbird have a big viewing audience?
March 31, 2023 at 6:11 pm #1205373037Was someone recently removed from the Limited Supporting Actor center? I’m racking my brain on who but I swear someone who was high up is missing.

Interestingly whilst The English has the highest number of ratings of the co-productions when it comes to American users on the site, it pales in comparison with British users having only 3.9k votes compared to This is Going to Hurt’s 5.7k. Perhaps this explains why it didn’t fare well with the HFPA in spite of the show’s European leaning but Blunt managed to get the SAG nomination over Lily James.

I have heard 20ish but flatlined in the US (the flatlined might explain Ted Lasso feeling that way), but Apple’s ecosystem generally has lower pickup in Europe (I believe parts of Scandinavia are the exception) so it would stand to reason that Apple TV would proportionate to population too.

Yeah, they seem to have paywalled the demo data and gone for US/UK/other countries, which is kind of helpful for picking up the weighting of those co pros.

Davis switched his winner prediction from Chastain to Elizabeth.. she is doomed now right? Lol. By the way last night I binge watched Swarm and Fishback would be such a deserving winner, I hope the voters emrbace the show.

I would literally read nothing in to anything any of the commentators say until they start making sense because they’re actively consuming what they’re talking about. I listened to Little Gold Men’s Emmy prediction podcast yesterday and was so frustrated. Everyone is still in Oscars mode, or this season is disinteresting to them.
This would be fine if it wasn’t April.

Fishback is really terrific in Swarm. I’d be so delighted for her to get nominated and I think it would be the sort of nom that would make a big difference for her career.
