Daniel Radcliffe gives the best performance of the year in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. If he gets snubbed I’ll fume. Especially because his film is easily winning TV movie category.

You all know it will be Dolly Parton’s Something Again right?!

Solidarity with the striking writers. Pay them the wages they are owed for bringing us the content we are all on here because of!

Having given it a few more listens over the weekend, I am finding it staggering how much I think Keoughs vocals hold up and even fly on the album as a non singer.

If you listen to the version of a Look at me now that Marcus Mumford (he co-wrote it) has put out with Maren Morris, as to be expected Mumford clearly has layers of richness of tone compared Claflin’s voice but unbelievably I think I prefer the rawness of Keoughs vocal to Morris!

I think she is very underrated here. Many more opportunities are coming from this for sure.

Keough is by far the standout of Daisy Jones. Not everything about the series works for me (although overall I think it’s quite good) but she’s on fire and would deserve an emmy nomination. Her perf is worth the price of admission alone.

Completely off-topic but I’ve been rewatching Mrs. America and getting reminded all over again of how completely robbed Sarah Paulson and Rose Byrne were.

It will never not be ironic how the Television Academy saw Sarah Paulson give a career defining performance in Mrs. America (in one of the episodes of that year) and just decided to nominate her wife instead for sitting down in a chair in a show most people forgot about a couple of months after it aired.

Mrs. America has been quite underrated overall since its release. What a great show.

Ari Graynor was my favorite. She doesn’t have the overall screen time or presence of Byrne or Paulson, but she knocks it out of the PARK in her character’s highlight episode. My personal winner of her category that year.

FYC: Bad Sisters (Anne-Marie Duff) Cunk on Earth (Diane Morgan), Fleishman Is in Trouble (Lizzy Caplan/Claire Danes), Industry (Marisa Abela/Myha'la Herrold), Physical (Rose Byrne), Poker Face (Ellen Barkin/Joseph Gordon-Levitt/Chloë Sevigny), The White Lotus (Sabrina Impacciatore)

My personal lineup for that year:

    – Sienna Miller, The Loudest Voice
    – T’Nia Miller, Years and Years
    – Sarah Paulson, Mrs. America
    – Jean Smart, Watchmen
    – Emma Thompson, Years and Years
    – Tracey Ullman, Mrs. America

And yet that just doesn’t even begin to convey how many deserving performances there were that went unrecognised that year. Ari Graynor! Hong Chau! Winona Ryder! Rose Byrne! Helen McRory! Aduba and Collette were very good and I’m glad they got recognised but it will never not disappoint me how many performances slipped under the radar that year in that category. Any of these 11 women could probably have been gunning for the win in my personal awards in any other year.

Yes yes yes! This scene in particular had me floored. She manages to make you laugh but also feel like crying in such subtle ways:

Not that you asked, but mine:

(Disclaimer: I haven’t watched Bad Education or Years and Years)

    Uzo Aduba – Mrs. America

    Rose Byrne – Mrs. America

    Patti LuPone – Hollywood

    Sarah Paulson – Mrs. America

    Jean Smart – Watchmen

    Tracey Ullman – Mrs. America

As you can tell I LOVED Mrs. America and thought the whole cast was deserving (though Margo Martindale was definitely the least impressive of the main quintet of supporting actresses). Toni Collette should’ve been lead for Unbelievable — it was a three-lead show, which is why she’s not in my lineup. And I have watched The Plot Against America but I definitely need to rewatch it, because I don’t remember whether I thought Zoe and Winona were both leads or both supporting or either or or what.

    Emmys FYC:

Comedy: The Bear, Cunk on Earth, Only Murders in the Building, Reservation Dogs

Drama: The Last of Us, Stranger Things

The Plot Against America was so robbed that year, it was my personal winner.

He lives in you, he lives in me, he watches over everything we see.
Into the water, into the truth, in your reflection, he lives in you.

    1. Zoe Kazan, The Plot Against America (I rewatched the show and I’m comfortable placing her in supporting now, but even in lead, Kazan is my personal #1)
    2. Sarah Paulson, Mrs America
    3. Jean Smart, Watchmen
    4. Naomi Watts, The Loudest Voice
    5. Sienna Miller, The Loudest Voice
    6. Hong Chau, Watchmen

T’Nia narrowly misses out, but she’s my #1 for Bly Manor. And I still haven’t really accepted that McCrory isn’t with us anymore – a thespian of the highest order.

FYC: Danielle Deadwyler, Best Actress in a Leading Role

Watching Ms. Marvel, and if this category is as barren as everyone says it is, submit this. I just finished the third episode, and each episode improves on itself. I think the last half is really nicely set-up, so I’m expecting the level of quality to maintain. Pretty dang good, definitely worthy of a nomination.
