    I generally really like Danes, but unless she has unbelievable material in the last 2 episodes (and she might), it’s kind of wild that she’s been happening over Caplan at the winter awards. Especially after this week’s episode.

    Caplan was so good. Very moving and honest.

    I’ve not been watching it but my partner has and when I told him about Danes getting in at CCA and Globes he said pretty much the same thing word for word.  Maybe she has something phenomenal late.

    The White Lotus has entered the Nielsen streaming charts for the first time ever in its run (this was following episode 3):

    FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

    Kindred is an ongoing drama series, the showrunner was on THR Top 5 Podcast 2-3 weeks ago.

    I’m behind on Fleishman but as of right now i genuinely think Danes is the best actor on the show even with limited screentime.
    She has such a strong presence in the screen, and she dominates it.

    FYC:
    The HBO darlings everywhere (The Last of Us, Succession, The White Lotus, Perry Mason, Somebody Somewhere, White House Plumbers, Love & Death);
    The Apple gang (Bad Sisters, Slow Horses, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, Black Bird);
    Poker Face, The Great, The Bear, Evil (especially Katja Herbers) and The Good Fight.

    Please! These gays, they're trying to murder me!

    I mean, she easily has the best character in the book

    Is there a chance The English rebounds here? There doesn’t seem to be much buzz anymore and the Globes totally shut it out…

    FYC:

    Zar Amir Ebrahimi - Holy Spider (Best Actress)
    Ana de Armas, Julianne Nicholson - Blonde (Best Actress, Supporting Actress)
    Samantha Morton - She Said (Best Supporting Actress)
    Kerry Condon - The Banshees of Inisherin (Best Supporting Actress)

    that episode about their marriage was excellent for her. And I believe next episode is told from her point of view which I assume she will kill in.

    I don’t have Blunt in my SAG predictions anymore but it wouldn’t surprise me if The English is a show that the industry likes more than the HFPA. Ditto with which of Gleeson and Carell is the push from The Patient (Gleeson had an absolutely barren category at both the Critics Choice and Globes which Carell didn’t have but the latter probably has a much stronger shot at SAG seeing he has like 18 nominations there). We’ve actually seen that happen quite a few times over the past few years with the HFPA showering shows like Catch-22, The Comey Rule, The Politician and Scenes From a Marriage with nominations and ignoring the likes of I May Destroy You, Schitt’s Creek (season 5), Watchmen, When They See Us and The White Lotus (season 1) whilst the industry does the exact opposite.

    Something I think is worth mentioning with the guilds in general is that voting for them usually finishes more than a month whilst the HFPA and CCA vote around the end of November. Obviously not everyone in the industry will be watching things over their holidays (just as any normal person would they may be on holiday or trying to spend quality time with their families) but a significant amount of them will be catching up on stuff during the holidays and that could help boost some shows, and films, that the Globes will have missed on. I do think in the past we’ve seen that help stuff like Yellowjackets getting in at WGA and shows like Godless and Station Eleven break through.

    With SAG voting taking place later this year (it usually goes on around the same time as the Globes but it is finishing around a month later this year) and WGA having a combined limited field it will be interesting to see what makes it in. I’ve slotted Wednesday into comedy at the former and Andor into drama at the latter purely because if they’re already getting attention right now in spite of being late releases then they should get some more over the holiday season even if it isn’t enough for them to break through.

    Thanks for sharing, I didn’t even factor in the different timescales involved with the voting. Maybe with the holidays coming and the voting going on during them we’ll see some different names coming up. Perhaps it is a matter of not everything being seen by the Globes. I’ll good that works in favour of The English.

    Also yeah I am confused why these times keep changing… I’m sure a few years ago we’d get the Globe nominations then SAG a week or less later, definitely before Christmas!

    I just want to say that the first 2 episodes of George and Tammy were really good for me .

    Both Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon are killing it .

    I do think those dates matter when we’re talking about anything that’ debuting in November and December and choices by publicity departments on what to prioritise. The English seemed to me to have quite a UK-centred rollout which may not have been to its advantage  early, whereas Critic’s Choice are likely to be a bit kinder to shows with mid-range reviews given a positive audience reaction (i.e House of The Dragon has had time to settle).

    She definitely does have a presence but this last episode was such a showcase for both Caplan and Eisenberg that I think you’d feel differently after seeing it.

    Danes will probably have killer material in the final 2 episodes though so my opinion could change as well.

    Caplan delivers in episode 6 of Fleishman – it’s quite well written and she nails it. A subtle and nuanced performance that feels very real and honest. Eisenberg was great too but this was a showcase for Caplan.

    From what I’ve read, episode 7 will revolve around Danes character and if you’ve read the book, will give Danes lots to play with (and critics were given all episodes prior to its debut which may explain why Danes is showing up and getting nominated).

    I hope Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij’s new show Retreat ends up as a serious contender, it’s billed as an innovative whodunnit. The OA was so underrated.
