Emmys Change Rule Blamed for Letting a Few Shows Hog the Nominations
The unlimited ballot is no more!
ReplyDecember 20, 2022 at 6:16 am #1205202171I am elated to see the unlimited ballot go. It’s benefited most of our favorite shows at some point, no doubt, but now there’s more room for passion picks again (hopefully)!
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2022 at 6:19 am #1205202179We desperately needed this, especially after last year’s mess. More varied and inspired noms hopefully.
ReplyCopy URLA Negroni. Sbagliato. With Prosecco in it.
December 20, 2022 at 6:24 am #1205202183John Oliver will face SNL… that’s interesting.
I don’t think they will, Oliver’s show is far more Talk based than Variety based. Variety mentioned how the two likeliest to move (ie compete against SNL are Corden & Fallon) .
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2022 at 6:30 am #1205202192Also interesting takeaways
• They are eliminating the Multi-Cam craft categories but will have a nominee in each (similar to directing), but will spilt again if there is more than 20 submissions per genre/field/craft.
• and in craft categories as well. In cinematography (half-hour), contemporary costumes, fantasy/sci-fi costumes, period costumes, directing for a comedy series, directing for a variety series, period/character hairstyling, period/character makeup, picture editing for a comedy series, picture editing for variety programming, production design for a narrative program (half-hour), sound mixing for comedy or drama series (half-hour), sound mixing for variety series or special, sound mixing for nonfiction/reality, technical direction and camerawork for a series.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2022 at 6:41 am #1205202207No J. Smith Cameron and Nicholas Braun in the Supporting categories 👏
On the other hand, Emma D’arcy might be affected, considering the category they’re in.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2022 at 6:51 am #1205202228J. Smith-Cameron and Nicholas Braun would be unaffected.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2022 at 6:53 am #1205202232What happens when voters continue to only watch 3-5 shows every year and those shows take up all the nominations anyways..
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2022 at 6:56 am #1205202239J. Smith-Cameron and Nicholas Braun would be unaffected.
Sadly, you’re right.

They’re in*
Emma D’Arcy is non binary.ReplyCopy URLPlease! These gays, they're trying to murder me!
December 20, 2022 at 7:11 am #1205202270I am so elated. Not only is this going to give shows and performances that desperately need this kind of attention a fighting chance (I’m looking at you Blunt and Bad Sisters) but it’s going to make this whole season so unpredictable and worth investing in. There are so many performances that yesterday felt like they would have no shot because of the shows they’re on that now have a shot and so many shows that yesterday felt like shoo-ins for series nods that are now in interesting positions.
ReplyCopy URLFYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
December 20, 2022 at 7:17 am #1205202281The scrapping of the unlimited ballot could change everything, I’m sure voters will still stick to their favs but with only a limited number, we could see more passion picks like Zendaya (S1) and Maslaney.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 20, 2022 at 7:18 am #1205202283That’s huge. It’s been killing the supporting categories.

And here’s me thinking Limited supporting will just all Dahmer & White Lotus folks again.
This is exciting.
