This is a winning tape for Jane Krakoswki. Between the mirror scene, the Rural Juror song and the Mickey Rourke joke, she was the sinning moment of this great finale. It would be a shame for her not to be nominated this year.

Anyway, I completely loved the finale. Lots of old jokes were brought back (lutz’s terrible taste in chosing lunch, the rural juror, conan being liz’s old boyfriend, kenneth being immortal) and it balanced perfectly craziness and sentimental scenes. One of the best finales of the last couple of years.I had to take a picture of myself after the episode ended. I needed to see how stupid I looked after crying when the Rural Juror song (of all things) started. I think the song was a cover, it sounded familiar.
It wasn’t the best final episode ever or in recent years (how long until that Six Feet Under final episode isn’t “recent years” anymore?), but it was good enough. It had a lot of those crazy 30 Rock moments that make no sense, it had plenty of old jokes being brought back and it had (surprisingly) a lot of sentimental moments. Somebody mentioned Liz and Jenna not having a final scene together, and I agree, it was weird and unexpected. I also thought more people would show up, although Moore and Hayek were great.
What was going on in that elevator scene with Liz and Conan? Was that green screen?
The Rural Jurar comeback was insane and perfect. The song, the lyrics, the fact that one of my favorite jokes ever made it back here was great. I also loved that the strip club was the place where Liz and Tracy talked, they brought back the Pilot with that one. Pretty good the way they divided the two episodes with the Lorne title card right in the 21 minute mark. Loooved the list of Kenneth’s banned items from NBC’s future shows, Justin Bartha was in it. Jonathan was excellent too.
This was truly one of my favorite shows ever and I consider it to be one of the best sitcoms ever too. We had a blast and we got A LOT of good jokes, catchphrases, guest stars and moments until the very end. I still can’t believe it was this show and not Studio 60 that made it this far and I specially can’t believe the show never got cancelled. Tina Fey did an excellent job here as did everybody else. Thank you to all.

I think it might be bad that it’s an hour long episode and she wasn’t in it that much, but she did get some fine moments. Her final scene, the song, the mirror, the L.A arrival, each of her goodbyes to the writers….pretty much everything she did here right?

Yeah, there was no Jenna and Liz scene, but it was still so perfect, at least with what I wanted to take away from it. Thank you so much, Tina Fey for creating one of the best sitcoms ever made. I will always have fantastic memories of this show and will forever hold a special place in my heart for it. You and your show are simply the best.
ReplyCopy URLI think that was a perfect ending to one of the best comedy series of all time. I was blown away by how it all came together. I am completely happy with how it ended and where everyone ended up. Krakowski has a killer tape if she can make it back into the Emmys which I really hope she does. I enjoy Modern Family but don’t think those ladies have anything that could take this yet.

I do think the scene with Liz and Tracy at the strip club was the best scene. It was just perfectly symmetrical with the pilot.
All I really care about is Jane K getting an Emmy. Make it happen, voters!
ReplyCopy URLReally enjoyed the finale, too. I’m actually kinda glad that they didn’t overstuff the finale with recurring celebrity guests. I like that they kept it mostly within the core cast of the show.
The Rural Juror! My god, that was one of their all-time funniest bits. They could milk that joke for years!
One of my favorite jokes was earlier in the episode, when Liz was telling Kenneth that she was gonna go do a cable show instead, since cable gives more time to let the moment land… then it instantly cut to Jenna walking into the writers’ room. Genius.
Goodbye, 30 Rock. Thank you for 7 incredible years.
ReplyCopy URLI thought this was a fitting and somewhat sentimental finale. It wasn’t as funny or madcap as I would have hoped for, but at least it came to terms with the core relationships of the show (Kenneth/Tracy, Tracy/Liz, and particularly Jack/Liz; no final Liz/Jenna scene was disappointing though). I liked the “let’s put on a final show!” element for “TGS” and how much of a disaster that all was. Lutz’s “Blimpz” last lunch gag was a hoot. Getting back some of the show’s early history was a nice touch (the “Rural Juror” return was amahzing, of course; Jenna’s finale song was nonsensical and pitch-perfect; the camera aside about not ever knowing Mickey Rourke? yesssss!). It was good getting back both Julianne Moore and Salma Hayek, though I was under the impression that this was going to be a star-studded finale. It would have been awesome to get back Liz’s old boyfriends one last time (Jon Hamm, Jason Sudeikis, Dean Winters, Michael Sheen, Peter Hermann, James Franco, Matt Damon, and a bit more for James Marsden to do), and a final goodbye to Sherri Shepherd. I guess the “business as usual” ending with everyone in new, yet familiar, ventures was the right way to end things. I wondered if the writers really had the cojones to actually kill off Jack f’in Donaghy after that video note scene and see how Liz would grapple with life without him, but that would have been too twisted even for them, and they were trying for something more upbeat than that. It was what it was in the end, I guess. I’ll be incredibly sad to see the show depart. It’s the end of an era, and I’m glad I stuck it out with “30 Rock” through the highs (the first three seasons were gangbusters, and there are gems sprinkled all through the seven seasons) and the perceived lows when fairweather fans departed, the ratings tanked even more than usual, and the Emmys became fickle like they’re known to do with long-running shows. There will never be characters like Liz Lemon, Jack Donaghy, Tracy Jordan, Jenna Maroney, Kenneth Parcell, etc., on television again, and the show’s legacy should be cemented as one of television’s great comedies. Hopefully the Emmys will give it a fitting reception this summer in series, writing, directing, techs, and multiple acting nods. But all I’m really hoping for is Jane Krakowski returning to the supporting actress comedy lineup, which is damn near impossible once voters have dropped you. She’s more than earned that elusive Emmy win, and with the category having key slots to fill (Kristen Wiig, Kathryn Joosten), shaky returnees (Mayim Bialik, Merritt Wever), shakier newbies (Ellen Barkin), and “maybe” the “Modern Family” juggernaut showing signs of weakness (Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara), it’s now or never for Jane Krakowski. Make it happen, Emmy voters. Oh well. “30 Rock,” out!

Season Average: B+You all have already said everything I wanted to say, so I’ll mostly just say I echo your sentiments with a few comments.
Of all the things I loved about this, I think I loved the Rural Juror callbacks the best. That song at the end was so nuts but oddly sentimental. I was absolutely blubbering by the end there. The Liz/Tracy scene in the strip club was kind of magical, too. That’s when I started crying. And, in a much lighter moment, I also just loved the whole thing with Liz and Criss fighting on message boards and then both going to meet at the park, where Criss was doing to smack some random woman in the face. Beautifully done finale and a bittersweet endings to one of the greatest comedies ever and one of my all-time favorite shows.
I really hope the show is recognized at Emmy time, as it certainly deserves to be. We especially need to get some kind of plan going to make sure Jane Krakowski gets nominated. Her brilliance over the last year, both seasons six and seven, should not go unrewarded!

I would go with Mazel Tov, Dummies. The masterpiece eye roll alone deserves the Emmy. She also deserves an Emmy for how great little Alice’s picture came out with the very first eye roll Liz ever did. To me that was her best episode of the season, but I can understand if she goes with the finale, lots of teary eyed moments that could make some vote for her.
I also think that this year there isn’t a clear choice for the winner like Dreyfus last year, which we discussed at large even before the show aired (no news about the new season right?). Dunham could be the new “it’s her year” and there’s also the tiresome Poehler wishing (I think I’ll give up this year). So maybe Tina can actually come back to win.

I’d also go with Mazel Tov, Dummies. The “I’m a princess” scene is a good moment, the eye roll is also a good moment.

I really think Tina could win again this year, this season was solid and emmy voters could be somewhat nostalgic, and could give her this last win for the show. I refuse to believe Lena Dunham will ever get an Emmy for acting. I mean, sure, her writting is great, but is she that amazing as an actress? To me, her performance is meh most of times. So far, Amy hasn’t had any particular great moment on parks, anything that could make her win. Hopefully the last episodes take her there, nobody deserves a win more than her, I don’t want her to be forever the bridesmaid. I also don’t think JLD will win this year, as in the last 10 years there hasn’t been a sequencial winner in this category… unless season two of veep really kills it (she did tweet that she had the most hilarious/embarassing scene ever, including the elaine dance, so you never know). There’s also Zooey (which is another usually meh performance for me) and possibly Laura Dern/Melissa McCarthy? So, I think Tina can take home one more this year.
