Episode Title: “The Beginning of the End”

Synopsis: Season 7 opens with the cast of “TGS” returning to work from hiatus, only to be shocked by Jack’s horrible fall programming lineup; bridezilla Jenna taps Liz to be her maid of honor; Tracy is invited to a dinner party hosted by Kenneth and Hazel.

I can’t wait. I can’t believe it’s finally ending! My favorite comedy ever.

I feel like season 6 was really the Jenna season. It’s like the writers worked extra hard to give Krakowski even better material than in previous seasons. Which is why the Emmy snub was so painful. Needless to say, I hope Jane Krakowski continues to bring it, ’cause she was on FIRE last season!

This is extremely sad for me. Even more so than The Office which just sucked so badly last season that I reaaaaally want it to end.

30 Rock has had its up and downs, but they’ve been mostly ups. Last night somebody posted a pic of Tina Fey in The Tuxedo Begins and it was just sad, that’s a pretty fantastic episode for a show to have in a sixth season. I don’t know if I’m pissed that it’s ending, or that it’s only going to be a 13 episode season. I mean, the show is over this year! Not even in may!

And yes! Jane Krakowski better have material like last year, the Emmys made a huge mistake snubbing her and considering the tape (or tapes) that made Julie Bowen the winner, I’m even more confident that at least when it comes to tapes, Krakowski would have beaten them all. If only I was that confident that even then, they would have voted for her…

I doubt that even with 6 episodes next year the Globes will take notice in 2014. You know SAG will if that’s the case, they always do this and with six consecutive wins, it’s easy to predict that at least Baldwin wouldn’t be forgotten if the show does air enough episodes in 2013 and they’re elegible in 2014 for SAG.

The closest comparisson for SAG and Globes would be Sex and the City. Parker and the ensemble got nominated at SAG in 2005 after the show had ended a year earlier. In fact, they won ensemble in 2004 the same night the final episode aired. They also got both nods from the Globes in 2005 but that’s a different case than 30 Rock since they were always huge favorites of theirs.

I think they’re burning these off in 2012, even if that means doubling up on episodes/plugging in holes of cancelled shows, etc.

30 Rock is my favorite show, and I’m glad the show is ending after 7 seasons. It’s the right number of seasons. However, I wish they were given a full order. I feel like Tina Fey and co. want so many guest stars and past guest stars to appear that this short season will just be a parade of guest stars. Poor Cerie. She’s probably going to have like 4 lines this year.

But I’m definitely anxious for tonight. Hopefully a nice boost in ratings? (Like a 1.6?)

    Hilarious!

Possible tape material for Jane Krakowski? I think so!

Wasn’t too thrilled about the episode, but at least it seems like the get Krakoswki an Emmy project continues.

What I learned from this episode: I cannot understand a word Alec Baldwin is saying while eating a cookie. It all blends into one crunchy sound.

I can’t say this was even a B+ episode, it had a lot of their usual strangely written and executed jokes that result in bad acting. Tina Fey’s very first scene with the baby could’ve been better, from example. In fact, a lot of Tina Fey’s scenes could’ve been better in this episode.

So as a premiere it was a bit of a letdown, specially because it’s the final season.

However, some jokes were incredible. The Dharma Ice Cream was so typical of 30 Rock and it’s one of those things they’ll throw at you and you would never in a million years expect. Liz’s witch undertones, Hazel’s baby blues (why are they blue?), the ridiculous new shows (O.J Simpson Live?), the green light, the return of Jonathan (I still don’t like you!) and of course, Jenna flying, that was just as over the top as this show can get and it was amazing to watch.

This episode made me think that I never even considered Kristen Schall as a nominee for Guest Actress and I started remembering a lot of the things she did last season specially in the live episode, when you never would have expected this girl to be the one who executed a 20 year old revenge on Sinead O’Connor. She should be considered this year.

So I think I would give this episode a B- maybe.

This was such a random episode even by usual “30 Rock” standards, but I liked most of it. Jack’s efforts to tank NBC with those awful programs was hilarious (my favorite might have been “Joe Rogan is . . . MANDELA!,” but there were so many to choose from . . . like GOD COP!, “O.J. Simpson Live!,” and poor Gary Sinise, LoL). I was taken aback by how great Alec Baldwin is looking lately with his weight loss. It looks like his twenty-something yoga wife is just what the doctor ordered. I’ll always say that one of the show’s best meta tricks is the way it mocks NBC as much as it does, even though now the network is in slightly better fortunes, programming wise. Jenna as a bridezilla has the potential for awesomeness for Jane Krakowski. The flying scene was like, what is this?, but somehow it went along with the tone of the episode. I hope that Liz gets her happy ending by the series finale, whether that means sticking it out with Criss or finally getting a baby of her own somehow. Liz’s “sexual awakening” should be some great material for Tina Fey to work with if done properly. I wasn’t into much of any scenes with Kenneth, Hazel, and Tracy. Kristen Schaal’s character is too grating and blah in general to get this much screentime, and though most Kenneth/Tracy scenes will usually involve all kinds of silliness, I’m ready for their dynamic to change into something more toward the end, but maybe these characters aren’t really capable of that. But then Tracy Morgan might have had the line of the night with “I wasn’t even supposed to be on that episode of ‘Family Matters.’ I just wandered onto the set b/c Reginald VelJohnson owed me $40.” My imaginary hat is tipped to you, Mr. Burditt.

Grade for “The Beginning of the End”: B

I was on a media conference call with Jack McBrayer and Exec Producer Robert Carlock talking about the end of the show (Liz and Jack?) and some of the upcoming guest stars: http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/entertainment/video/229488
