Some new developments leading up to the end. It wasn’t as funny as I would have liked, but the revelation about Colleen sort of made up for that. If that’s where they were going with her, it would have been nice to get some hints here and there about that in Stritch’s guest appearances over the years. Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin were great in all of their scenes together, especially the bedroom scene where they discussed their lack of sexual chemistry all this time. Tracy and Jenna’s thread with Kenneth was okay, but what struck me more than anything there was Tim Meadows showing up as Martin Lutherking. LoL! I’ve wondered where he’s been for the past decade or so. Bringing back Hazel though, ugh. I didn’t ever need to see Kristen Schaal on this show again. Megan Mullally should have had a meatier guest starring role than this. Can’t wait to see how things go down now. Cliffangerz!

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 24, 2013 at 6:30 pm #258344I was about to lose it at the end of this episode (luckily, my family was there, so they stopped me for fear of embarassment). I’m sure I’ll be a blubbering mess if I watch it alone. I really think that tonight was the first time that I was fully able to register that the show is truly over. So sad that we’re losing one of TV’s brightest gems. Here’s hoping for a killer finale next week!

Damn it all that was so good. As Liz says when she meets her kids, “That seems about right.” That’s exactly how I feel about this final season. Everything feels right. Everyone’s getting great closure and I can’t beleive I’ll miss and feel for all these characters that can be so self obsessed. This season the show maintained (or elevated) its quick fire wit and jokes on tops of jokes while bring an emotional component like the show has never had. Liz’s wedding, Colleen, Kenneth getting the job, TGS quitting, ect. This season has been great.
Liz and Jack didn’t even share a scene in this episode after the cold open. They’re the emotional center of the show and they weren’t even together, yet I cried twice during the episode… I can only image what they are going do do those two next week… I’m going to be so sad I’ll have to watch it by myself.
Modern Family and Parks has been strong, but this show needs to pick up it’s final emmy. It’s been perfect. I can’t even narrow it down to 6 episodes…
Tape A: “Mozel Tov Dummies”
“My Whole Life is Thunder”Tape B: “Game Over”
“A Goon’s Deed in A Weary World”Tape C: Finale. (2 episodes). Unless the finale sucks then they could easily put in “Govenor Dunston”, “Florida”, “Stride of Pride” or “Beginning of the End”.
They got some milage out of that Homonym TV Show.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 25, 2013 at 5:17 pm #258349Nice penultimate episode, but like last week’s, I wish it had been funnier than that. This is the beginning of the end, so go all out with the big laughs! Sentimentality, out! But the “Bro Body Douche” guy was a riot (“The Man Cave: TV for your peen”), and of course, those would be the two children that Liz would end up raising. LoL. Kenneth getting to be the NBC president job is sorta perfect. The ending song with the “history of NBC” green screen images was a fitting touch. It’s still hard to believe that this is all over and done with next week. It’s the end of an era for one of television’s best comedies.

Episode Titles: “Hogcock!” & “Last Lunch”
Synopsis: In the series finale to NBC’s Emmy-winning comedy series “30 Rock,” Liz Lemon settles into her new role as mother, while Jack reflects on the recent developments in his life; Kenneth adapts to his new job as NBC president; Jenna gears up to sing a farewell song as the cast and crew of “TGS” reassemble for one final show.

After all, Jack was right…. In Season 1 Episode 3 (Blind Date):
Liz: (about Kenneth) Well it was nice of you to let him keep his job.

Jack: The Italians have a saying, Lemon. “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” And although they’ve never won a war or mass-produced a decent car, in this area they are correct. In five years we’ll all either be working for him… or dead by his hand.January 31, 2013 at 6:28 pm #258355Really great finale. Not one of the best ever, but certainly did a great job at having a couple sentimental moments but still maintaining the crazy, nutty, off the wall comedy that makes 30 Rock what it is. Some nice callbacks (loved the Julianne and Salma cameos), but my 2 favourite have to be Jenna: admitting she’s never met Mickey Rourke right to camera, and of course, bringing back the Rural Juror. I have no idea what that ending song was, but I was laughing the whole time.
Only disappointment for me was that there was no final Liz and Jenna scene (really surprised Liz wouldn’t have that), and not that I necessarily needed any, but I’m surprised there wasn’t some big cameo appearances. I just expected there would be since this show has had almost everyone under the sun.

I know I was expecting to see Jon Hamm make an appearance
