I’ll pretend that this was Jennifer Coolidge’s Emmy acceptance speech. Such a blunder for those absurd Emmy producers to cut her off the way they did for no good reason other than a somewhat rambly beginning of her speech. Read the room, people! What an icon! I’d say her speech and Ryan Murphy’s were the best of the night on the television side.

Kevin Costner’s win is one I’ll never understand lmao. It makes no sense. Like, how?!

I guess they just like him this is his third win..

It’s interesting how despite it being the HFPA Abbott and Yellowstone in particular are such domestic-skewing shows/winners.

Is it really though? I feel like the argument that just because something is much more “American” that people who arent from the States won’t take to it is quite overstated at this point (and vice-versa).

I will say with Yellowstone it surprises me that there was enough support for Costner to win but for Reilly to not get nominated. She felt like someone who’d have been a really Golden Globesy choice.

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

I’m warmer on Yellowstone than the majority of this board, though admittedly not caught up recently (I think it’s soapy and OTT and I get why people love it) but Kelly Reilly is the person who should be getting the acting plaudits, not Costner.

Costner isn’t actively bad in anyway, but in my opinion it’s a figurehead role that’s not necessarily bringing anything sensational, though he is a producer and they tend to favour that.

One of the morning news anchors here in the UK said something similar when covering the story. Never heard of these two, loved HotD, Black Bird & White Lotus though. Nothing about Zendaya, Peters or Seyfried.

I mean in terms of visibility for a global telecast and distribution rights. Yellowstone’s distribution is really patchy elsewhere, and I don’t think Abbott has that same UK/US/Australia/Canada deal across the board from what I gather (for instance, the Wikipedia page views for Abbott in a language other than English are like three percent, as opposed to The Crown being, say, 40%) – a lot of international viewers will genuinely not know the show. The same is true of Hacks (really patchy distribution) and Alaska Daily I don’t think has any distribution internationally, last time I checked.

At least Severance has 3 Creative Arts Emmys, poor Saul can’t even squeeze out any wins outside of shorts.

I feel like Saul’s problem (broadly) is you tend to be devotee or out. No one watches it casually and you need that to get a win.

Reasonable pickup on TikTok from last night (I’ll look elsewhere, but this is the easiest to track)

    Younger actors/performers (u40)

    Evan Peters

    Ortega

    Gomez

    Butler

    JAW

    Rihanna

    D’Arcy

Over 40s (harder to trend here)

    Coolidge’s monologue

    Eddie Murphy’s speech

    Angela Bassett’s speech

    Ke Huy Quan’s speech

    Yeoh generally

Henry Winkler doing the Wednesday dance

    Regina Hall laughing at Costner

That’s on the news anchor’s ignorance more than anything. How do you now mention Zendaya lol?

I mean it’s just different demos / age groups. Zendaya’s been a slow burn up from Gen Z/young millenials in to public consciousness in my opinion
