I will say Murphy’s speech was so classy it probably bumps Dahmer up a touch.

It’s not just Zendaya. It’s the general lack of reporting knowledge is the point.

In the latest TV ratings, NBC’s first airing of the Golden Globes in two years averaged 5.4 million total viewers and a 1.0 demo rating, steady in audience but down in the demo from the early numbers (5.4 mil/1.2) for the 2021 telecast.
The 2021 Globes went on to tally 6.9 million total viewers and a 1.5 demo rating in Nielsen finals, down more than 60 percent from the last pre-pandemic ceremony and marking the gala’s smallest audience since 1995 (the last year that TBS hosted the show before turning it over to NBC) and what was then an all-time demo low.

I’m sure NBC will never share actual numbers but Peacock didn’t even exist two years ago so I’m sure some viewers migrated there (albeit probably not a ton, since it’s you know, Peacock) but I know that’s where I watched it last night.

January 12, 2023 at 12:28 am #1205238337Frankly, they make it impossible for people to watch – whether on a pay-per-view option or through a streaming site with ads (they haven’t posted many clips on youtube). Looking out for their media conglomerate buddies through these global media cable groups, rather than showing interest in getting people to watch. It’s gross. Anyway ratings don’t even count for a thing anymore, given how many ways people watch.

I know it isn’t really a Gold Derby thing but their red carpet coverage also sucked, and I think people don’t realise that if you bore people there, they tune out. It is a significant part of the audience. There are way more fashion obsessives out there than awards nerds (if there were, the TV board wouldn’t be so frequently quiet and the film board wouldn’t be the same 40 people over and over
Our local ratings have separated the red carpet and ceremonies out for a while and the dropoff is huge if the red carpet is garbage. They also don’t help any of the fashion sites spread their cause by not giving people twelve seconds to explain what designer they’re wearing nor do they keep the fashion industry onside. It’s quid pro quo to expect that in exchange for putting X actor in a GQ cover shoot/article.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 13, 2023 at 11:41 am #1205241413I’ll pretend that this was Jennifer Coolidge’s Emmy acceptance speech. Such a blunder for those absurd Emmy producers to cut her off the way they did for no good reason other than a somewhat rambly beginning of her speech. Read the room, people! What an icon! I’d say her speech and Ryan Murphy’s were the best of the night on the television side.
They were amazing!
I’m not sure how it came across on tv, but in the room Ke Huy Quan’s speech had people in tears. Perfect start to the evening! All respect to HOTD, but I’m glad the camera wasn’t on me when Severance lost. 😊

I agree! I just don’t see what’s so marvellous about her performance (but understand that others do).
