Couldn’t find a 2023 thread (although we discusssed it somewhere? if I’ve missed the thread let me know) but just making this one because the winners are announced Friday Australian time (so realistically, Thursday for everyone else), a couple of days before BAFTA
Short of two local options they line up pretty well with other contenders, outside of them flipping TWL and The Bear. TWL won last year.
(FYI: Origin won domestic drama, actor, and actress, and Weatherall won domestic supp. actor).
Rare industry voting outside of SAG so possibly worth checking in on.

February 18, 2023 at 7:00 am #1205307377Wow at Wednesday being nominated but not Ortega. Know it is because it’s an all genre actress category but damn, always felt like she was elevating the show with her, guess it’s more liked on whole than expected.
Just started with Mystery Road and would love for Smith repeat and win the against the international competition.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 18, 2023 at 9:09 am #1205307454I know she’s Australian but Debicki and no Staunton again. Wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix moves her to lead, they don’t have another contender.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 18, 2023 at 9:18 am #1205307462They didn’t nominate anyone from The Crown season 4 last time round so I’m not looking into it here as anything more than homegrown bias but I definitely do think Netflix should move her up to lead at the Emmys. She is the show’s only chance of winning something above the line at the Emmys so keeping her in supporting would essentially be them shooting themselves in the foot seeing as no one will have any chance of winning against Coolidge. It’s not like any of the other contenders in drama actress are going into this field with an individual SAG nomination.
ReplyCopy URLFYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.
February 18, 2023 at 10:14 am #1205307519Now that there is no undeniable sweeper to stop her, I think Coolidge has it in the bag.

Australia is still very Facebook centric and my timeline were absolutely infatuated by the older cast, particularly Christie, so I’m not super surprised. Australia has like 0.3% Latino population so Ortega has no advantage with that here.
Maisel instead of Barry here is more notable. Neither are super popular but Barry seems much more so than Maisel. I don’t think Abbott translates in terms of the school culture AT ALL (to the extent I have teacher friends who actively dislike it)
That said I think White Lotus and Coolidge will win.

They did nominate The Crown in series though.

February 23, 2023 at 2:34 pm #1205315312Oop, the international support for JCool. She’s snatching both SAG & Emmy.
She’s really well liked here. It’s quite rare for our local papers to write glowing pieces on actors and they have with J-Cool.
Also, an Italian holiday season is Aussie catnip
Also Mystery Road: Origin and Mark Coles Smith won in drama.

February 23, 2023 at 3:06 pm #1205315372I have to laugh at my very Aussie mum after the Globes:
“That was terrible. Why did I watch this? The only good thing was Jennifer Coolidge. She’s hilarious. I was rolling. Should I watch The White Lotus?”
