Not the direction I was expecting, but I dig it. Fun episode with bringing Tariq back lol. His character is as messy as ever and only needed in small doses.

I agree that Tariq is best in small doses, but I love how it shows how much Janine has grown. The sweet subtle scene at the end between her and Gregory, awwww. Also a little more Ava in this one. I think she’s one that also needs to be used judiciously.

Especially the Barbara and “Forever B****” mothers side story, they got me laughing so hard! Continuing to love the Janine and Gregory romance-building scenes. And although Ava had little to do again, I thought her moments were quite good.

ReplyCopy URLNovember 17, 2022 at 1:02 am #1205157297I don’t really love this episode. It just feels like another “Janine won’t listen and causes trouble because of it” episode like ‘Light Bulb’ or ‘Juice’. Would love some character development for her because she is kinda getting on my nerve 😭. Loved the slow burn romance though! Also, Sheryl Lee Ralph is coming for another emmy. I feel like she always has a tape in each episode this season, much like Janelle last season.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 17, 2022 at 7:10 am #1205157531This was a fun episode. The egg dropping scenes were hilarious. Those traumatized children lol. Poor Ralph. Great ensemble work throughout, especially the one in the break room where everyone started confessing what their science “myths” were and Gregory couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Shout out to Raven Goodwin, or as I like to call her, “the other Amber Riley™.” I liked how she stood her ground against Barbara’s surface judgments. We rarely get to see any character on the series do that, so kudos, writers! Janine was being a gnat about those eggs, but her eternal positivity vibe is just a lasting character trait at this point. Also good tonight was Jerry Minor. I like seeing other teachers featured, since this school apparently has so many grade levels in it that the audience never sees. More feuding with Jacob as well!
ReplyCopy URLNovember 17, 2022 at 11:52 am #1205157937Something I am noticing is that Janine has been the driving force of chaos in basically every episode this season. The main reason things go wrong every episode. Last season I think that happened a lot, but it was a bit more evenly spread out, particularly with Ava getting to serve that purpose a lot. I wonder if that’s why, even though James still kills every moment she gets, that character especially feels more muted this season. I also think it’s why Janine is starting to get on some viewers nerves.
I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they’re just stretching a bit to adapt to an episode order almost double their first season, so I’m hopeful we’ll get a bit more variety in the character stuff in the back 2/3.
