Is anyone watching this show? This show is hilarious and I did not realize that the show started airing in December. Maybe this explains the absence from awards shows.

I can’t remember the last time a comedy (nevermind network) came this fully formed with what it wants to be and a cast that’s so in-sync with each other from it’s pilot.

Thanks for the clarification. I have seen the last three episodes and I laughed out loud several times throughout each episode. I hope that this show gets some Emmy love.

Me too. I love the principal too played by Janelle James.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 13, 2022 at 9:12 pm #1204800743One of the best shows in a long time! It’s weird that the mockumentary format is now vintage and this show is doing a take on it. It made me 🥴 in terms on how far television has come since it’s first use. I live for this cast. Quinta is a genius and Miss Sheryl Lee has never looked better. Also shout out to blast from past Chessy from The Parent Trap. And when did Tyler James Williams become fine?! The white guy is fun/cute. Janelle James steals the show as Ava! She would make my ballot if I were a voter. Speaking of its awards chances, TCA will come through. As for Emmys, I think it’ll have to wait until next year but won’t be surprise if it surprises here this year.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 14, 2022 at 5:44 am #1204801094I enjoy the show quite a lot. The ensemble is tight and with each successive episode, they tighten up the plots and the way various stories are woven together.
I wonder if this might take the black-ish slot with the Emmys.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 14, 2022 at 7:21 am #1204801199I’ve seen five or six of these so far and am really enjoying it, too. I’d love to see a surprise writing nomination for Quinta Brunson.

February 15, 2022 at 7:31 pm #1204804341Oh my goodness the pilot of this show was absolutely PERFECT. It set out the show’s world and what it was trying to achieve in such a short timeframe but more importantly it was just incredibly funny. I’m not being misleading when I say I was drinking a glass of water whilst watching this and I had to stop at points so I wouldn’t burst out laughing. The strongest comedy pilot I’ve seen since The Other Two‘s.

February 23, 2022 at 9:06 am #1204814540Sometimes it feels a little too “I’m explaining my character’s motive through dialogue,” but oh my god it’s so funny. Supporting cast is just hilarious and I think it speaks to an important profession going through bad times but with humor! Love
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 23, 2022 at 9:47 am #1204814597About to start episode 8. It’s a cute show! A little bit twee and sort of old school style for me, but a great concept and some jokes have made me proper cackle. The kids are hilarious and so are the principal and the sub teacher. Honestly I know in the US teachers have to buy their own pens and supplies and need to do Go Fund Mes and Amazon wishlists, but it’s so fucking insane to me. If this show can shine a spotlight on that, that’s awesome. As the daughter of a retired primary school teacher, I see this show possibly tapping into a huge audience. Apparently there are nearly 4 million teachers in the US.
Ok but they also need to stop breaking 4th wall, like we do understand when someone is frustrated without getting [The Office UK 2001] side eye into the camera six times in every scene. It’s no Scrubs but it’s still worth a watch and very family friendly.

February 23, 2022 at 11:55 am #1204814821I love the fact that this is a bit “old fashioned” and could have seen this working in the 80s/90s in front of an audience. I love that it’s not cynical and that Quinta Brunson’s Janine still has that optimism. Brunson’s pilot was wonderful and I would love to see her have an Emmy nom. I’m glad they are using just the right amount of Janelle James’ Ava. That’s a character that’s easy to spotlight as a breakout because of the over the top nature of the character. But it’s one that could take over if not careful (The Kramer Effect) and she is utilized perfectly. I would watch Sheryl Lee Ralph in anything and I am rooting for the original Deena Jones to get an Emmy nom.
Also I have spoken to several friends who are teachers and they LOVE this show.
My 3 favorite comedies right now are all new and all on broadcast: Abbott Elementary, Ghosts, The Wonder Years.

It’s so funny that you mention The Office, because I had just been thinking that this show reminds me of how the U.S. version might have felt if told from Pam’s point of view.
