I hadn’t seen a thread for this under-the-radar Apple series and didn’t know if anyone else was watching it. I don’t think it will set the Emmys on fire or anything (maybe a design nomination or two), but it’s a pleasant watch.

The show’s greatest asset is Enrique Arrizon as Maximo, a young man who lands a dream job working for a swanky resort in Acapulco. He’s charismatic and very appealing. A nice supporting cast includes standouts such as Vanessa Bauche as Maximo’s mother and Camila Perez as his crush, Julia.

The show is structured as a flashback, with an older Maximo telling his young nephew about his adventures at the resort. That aspect is rather less successful.

The candy-colored ’80s design and the period music certainly give it a nostalgic appeal. And if some of the characters are rather broadly drawn, there’s a lot of heart as well. The run times of 30 minutes or less for most episodes help keep it brisk.

I’m watching, it’s a fun background noise show. I agree that the main highlight is the main actor.

This is such a pleasant watch, and after Apple’s summer of bombs and whatever the hell is going on with Morning Show, that’s all I really want from them at this point.

I could do without the first person narration from older Maximo but enjoying the show other than it.

Memo picking the toys from lost and found both times left me in stitches.

Apple finally stopped dragging their feet and renewed this charmer for a second season, set to shoot this spring.
