The prowess of this lineup puts The Hollywood Reporter to shame.

June 7, 2022 at 5:29 am #1204974790The Oscar season has arrived once more. That means that theatres are now crammed with Best Picture contenders that aren’t 70 percent spandex, and pop-culture conversation is spewing out takes at an alarming rate. As is customary, the Best Picture category offers the most opportunity for cinematic radicalism and ratio’d tweets. But, before the winner for 2020 is announced on February 9th, it’s worth considering how far Best Picture has progressed in the last decade.

Hathaway and Strong are real life friends and are in a film that was at Cannes this year, Armageddon Time, together.

This eliminates Glenn Close and Oscar Isaac. Setoodeh liked one of the replies that guessed Streisand.

Is it her just because she is his stepmom? I mean she is a legend so no complaints

Honestly starting to wonder if he has a better shot for Loki than I had assumed.

I’m ambivalent on Loki when it comes to these acting categories after its SAG shut out but between both Hiddleston and Disney’s campaigning, the critical love, its strong guild performance I am becoming increasingly tempted to slot it into series. Whilst it is admittedly faulty to compare them too repetitively (considering The Mandalorian obviously had a much bigger impact in the zeitgeist when it came out) but it kind of reminds me of The Mandalorian in the sense that television critics love it, the majority of general audiences love it and in a series race that kind of lacks consensus it pulls through due to a wealth of below the line love. I think what I find interesting about Loki is how it managed to get 2 WGA nominations. You could argue it’s drama writing nomination, like The Morning Show, was probably due to weak competition and a wealth of visibility but the fact it got into new series (when the WGA had a wealth of comedies to nominate over it) feels telling to me that it might have broad support amongst that branch.
