I don’t get the Hacks and The White Lotus admiration two years in a row but all in all a nice list.

I didn’t get understand The White Lotus love for season one and have only watched one very boring episode of the new season so far. Hacks is definitely better and season one was great. Season 2 was a pretty big let down for me, though.

Is great that they recognized Pachinko.

Barry and The Crown missing was foreseeable but a complete shut out of HBO dramas for the first time since the AFI started giving out honours in TV was not. Would have at the very least expected one of Euphoria and House of the Dragon to make it in here seeing as the likes of Lovecraft Country and the final season of GoT have managed to in the past.

Glad I called Mo. Interesting that Reservation Dogs managed to hold on this year like it has been doing on the critics aggregate and I’m glad to see Somebody Somewhere and Pachinko getting the recognition they deserve. Hopefully they build visibility from being here!

This is the first time since 2015 where the only limited series rep was an anthology. Perhaps goes to show how weak this year has been in breakouts in that field not just in awards terms but in general. Black Bird has been consistently under-performing so far not only missing both here and at CCA but it also hasn’t made much of a dent on the year end lists at all (at least in retrospect to some of Apple’s other critical darlings this year like Bad Sisters, Pachinko and Slow Horses).

FYC: Better Call Saul, The English and The Good Fight in all categories including Emily Blunt, Bob Odenkirk, Christine Baranski and Rhea Seehorn.

The absence of House of the Dragon is curious when you remember that the AFI named all eight seasons of Game of Thrones in their annual lists.

I like that they are moving away from picking just Emmy contenders. 2015-2019 all their picks had ATL Emmy noms with most being series nominees. Now:

    2020: The Good Lord Bird
    2021: Reservation Dogs, Schmigadoon!
2022: Mo, Pachinko, Reservation Dogs, Somebody Somewhere

House of the Dragon missing is surprising since GoT is the most honored show here and got in for every single season as mentioned above. Andor too to an extent. But if it means the likes of Pachinko and Somebody Somewhere get some deserved attention, then I’m here for it. Also wonder if Yellowjackets just missed or wasn’t eligible.

A Negroni. Sbagliato. With Prosecco in it.

I love these picks, all ten were fantastic. Not at all surprised to see Reservation Dogs on here, I don’t know if there’s a big overlap between critical love and the AFI but I’ve kind of been expecting Reservation Dogs to make it here since it aired.

Also not sure how good of a predictor they are for awards, but I think Andor missing here could be an indicator that it’ll be an uphill battle for the show. Barry missing is pretty surprising for me, I don’t know if it’s the gap between seasons or the difference in tone but something about Season 3 is really not connecting in the same way as the first two seasons.

I don’t know if they even do non-scripted stuff, so maybe this is irrelevant, but the only miss in terms of “Oh, that’d be nice to be included” for me is The Rehearsal, but I’m not really expecting that to show up anywhere. Also I think the ten shows they went with are all fantastic so I can’t be that sad.

The only inclusion that kind of surprised me was Mo, but I’m so happy it made it in.

They snubbed Barry S2 as well and there wasn’t much reason to bring it back, something that they don’t do very often.

Mo and Somebody Somewhere were mowhere (can’t tell if this is funny or corny) to be found in my predictions and I am shocked by both of their inclusions. But congratulations to them.

I am shocked by Barry’s omission though. I know that they normally don’t recognize shows after snubbing them (which is why I wasn’t bullish on OMITB), but I figured with it having such a long hiatus, it would almost be a reset. Plus, it was just an absolutely terrific season of TV.

I wasn’t shocked by This Is Us missing, but in the same vein as Barry, it was terrific television and had such a critical moment that I thought it might be able to come back. Same can be said of Stranger Things.

Also, not one genre show being nominated (except I guess for Severance, but that’s not as obvious), is surprising to me when there were Andor, The Boys, House of the Dragon, and, again, Stranger Things to pick from.

The other eight though make a lot of sense; I was predicting them; and good on AFI for recognizing them.

Once there was only Dark. If you ask me, the Light's winning.

I only watched 4 here. Yikes.

This was a not a tv year for me for sure.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

At this point I think AFI is not very fond of OMITB so I’m just gonna take the L and stop expecting it to get honored and predicting it. Life’s not fair!
