Widely celebrated as Alan Bennett’s masterpieces, his multi-award-winning Talking Heads return to BBC One. Filmed during lockdown under social distancing guidelines, a new generation of Britain’s finest actors star in 10 of Bennett’s classic scripts, alongside two brand new Talking Heads penned by the acclaimed writer last year.

1×01- A Lady of Letters (Imelda Staunton)
1×02- An Ordinary Woman (Sarah Lancashire)
    1×03- Soldiering On (Harriet Walter)
1×04- Her Big Chance (Jodie Comer)
    1×05- Playing Sandwiches (Lucían Msamati)
1×06- A Chip in the Sugar (Martin Freeman)
1×07- The Outside Dog (Rochenda Sandall)
1×08- Bad Among the Lentils (Lesley Manville)
1×09- Nights in the Garden of Spain (Tamsin Greig)
1×10- The Hand of God (Kristin Scott Thomas)
1×11- Miss Fozzard Finds Her Feet (Maxine Peake)

Sarah Lancanshire one is going to be a big hitter. It’s new and highly controversial while making viewers understand if not sympathetic to the main character, in no less part due to the brilliant acting. I  personally didn’t enjoy the writing there but my guess is this will be the bafta nom. Jodie’s is very good but will have julie walters comparisons to overcome just like every other remade monologue.

    “A Lady of Letters” Review

Loved the concept and format of the show. Not seen the original so I’m so far impressed by the writing. Staunton was amazing in this episode, fully deserving of a guest actress nomination next year. The story was both funny and emotional at the same time.

    Thoughts after first 4 episodes

Didn’t like Harriet Walter’s episode, the story just didn’t flow and her performance didn’t wow me. Sarah Lancashire was amazing, quite a deep story, good writing. Jodie was amazing, great episode as well.

I was never a fan of the original Soldiering On (though Stephanie Cole was great in it). Glad you enjoyed Jodie’s, I’m hoping to watch that one soon.

I caught Jodie’s monologue the other night; just fantastic though I refuse to compare her and Julie Walters. Both brilliant in their own unique way!
