She was 99 years old, just a few weeks shy of what would have been her 100th birthday.
She was Sue Ann, she was Rose, she was Elka, she was so many other indelible characters. But most of all she was our Betty. So sad. The last of the stars of The Mary Tyler Show to pass away (of the regular cast members). The last of the four Golden Girls to pass away ):
ReplyDecember 31, 2021 at 4:07 pm #1204689264This is heartbreaking to me because Betty White was an amazing actress and a huge lover and advocate of animals. A lot of people do not know that Betty White had a show in the 1950s and had Arthur Duncan, an African-American entertainer on her show. Stations in the south wanted Betty White to get rid of Arthur Duncan and Betty refused to do so and said “live with it.

(That’s how much of an awards show junkie I was even then.) Happy 2022!! Health, peace, and happiness for all of us.

It is interesting that there were some years where there were three nominees in some years, four nominees in some areas, and five nominees in others. Betty White was a force as Sue Ann Nivens. I am glad that she received Emmy love for that role. Julie Kavner did finally win in 1978.
