ReplyApril 21, 2020 at 3:35 pm #1203439681Obviously it would be better to judge both shows once Better Call Saul ends, but I’m giving this to Breaking Bad.
I don’t think any other show will top it as my all time favorite.
ReplyCopy URLApril 21, 2020 at 3:45 pm #1203439703I’m on season 4 of Better Call Saul right now, but still I’m going with Breaking Bad.
Better Call Saul is very good. The writing is strong. Performances are great, specifically Odenkirk and McKean. I like Seehorn and Banks as well, though Banks was given his best material in season 1 (as of where I’m at right now). Something just isn’t clicking with me. With Breaking Bad, the stakes felt super high every episode. You couldn’t look away, not that you even wanted to. On the other hand, I’m finding myself really disinterested in some of the storylines in Better Call Saul. I definitely like the show, but I could actually see why it hasn’t performed well at the Emmy’s (in terms of wins).

ReplyCopy URLApril 21, 2020 at 4:44 pm #1203439790I’ll throw a little love out there for Better Call Saul. It has impressed me and engaged me just as much as Breaking Bad’s first 5 seasons did, all while living under the shadow of Breaking Bad and carefully weaving it’s way into the preexisting universe. The blend of humor, drama and just clever writing in general on BCS are even more impressive than BB at times. But as others have mentioned, the stakes just aren’t the same.
It’s only Breaking Bad’s excellent final season that puts it over the top for me, and so I don’t think it’s fair to judge yet.

If you get disgusted by this, I worry
Both shows fucking rule.

Once again, Marco, I can count on you to say the right thing.

The BrBa fanboys are starting to over-hype BCS a little bit too much to the point it becomes a little annoying.April 22, 2020 at 10:18 am #1203440989Once again, Marco, I can count on you to say the right thing.
We should start to look for differences among our personal tastes before we get accused of being the same user, lol.
Just joking, of course! Thanks for your (as always) nice comment 🙂
ReplyCopy URLApril 23, 2020 at 7:27 pm #1203444584The two shows are not comparable. Both two of the best tv shows of all time but in a very different way. Whereas BCS is slower and more focused on the character development, Breaking bad is more explosive, binge watching and made of epic moments. BCS doesn’t have that big moments as Breaking Bad does but in a way it has a more complete and consistent narrative. All that being said, I have to choose Breaking bad as the best of this two shows. I think no one will ever top Breaking bad as my favourite tv show of all time purely based on what it achieved(and created) in a tv standpoint.
