HollyoaksApril 21, 2022 at 11:04 am #1204926077My votes are:
The Dingles (Emmerdale)
Sally Carman (Coronation Street)
EmmerdaleI’m quite disappointed that they got rid of the Best Actor and Best Actress Awards. It’s quite unfair on the soap stars, and it means less recognition.

My votes go to everything Coronation Street

Christina Applegate in ‘Dead to Me’
The White Lotus in all categories
Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville and Yvonne Strahovski- Drama Supporting Actress
Ali Wong in ‘Beef’
April 30, 2022 at 1:11 am #1204937717I don’t mind them combining Actor and Actress – Soaps are often the first to bring in new ideas so being more welcoming to non binary actors in this is a welcome sign.
I just wish they had come up with a better replacement than ‘Best Family’.
It doesn’t even have a longlist.
They could have made a bigger deal out of the dramatic and comedic performance categories and made those public voted in place of Actor/Actress?
I’ve not really watched any soaps this year so unsure what to expect. All I know is my votes are going to Doctors just because I’d love to see them at least get shortlisted for a public voted award.

May 10, 2022 at 2:25 am #1204947906The shortlist has been revealed
5 Lead Performers have been shortlisted, and they are:
Sally Carmen – Coronation Street
Gillian Wright – Eastenders
Linda Henry – Eastenders
Mark Charnock – Emmerdale
Paige Sandhu – EmmerdaleSo Emmerdale and Eastenders arguably have the upper hand in Best Soap right now with two nominees each here.
You’ve got to feel for Mark Charnock though – if it were a previous year, he would have won Best Actor based on him being the only male shortlisted.
Based on socials alone, Paige Sandhu appears to be the favourite – but we will wait and see!
The full nominees have been announced too! Same categories as before – minus the split for Male & Female Dramatic Performance.
5 women are up for Comedy Performance.
5 men are up for Newcomer.https://www.britishsoapawards.tv/panel-nominations

May 10, 2022 at 10:48 am #1204948289I am a bit surprised that the Gray Storyline got snubbed, despite how badly written it was.
I also think EastEnders should have been more varied with their nominations instead of giving most of their nominations to Jean’s Bi-Polar Storyline.
I think Hollyoaks is going to do appallingly on the night. It’s awful at the minute.

Lacey Turner extends her run as the most awarded actor at the British Soap Awards with a win for Best Partnership.
Paige Sandhu becomes the very first non-white Best Performer winner (including Actor & Actress) EVER at the British Soap Awards.
Tameka Empson becomes the first black winner of Comedy Performance.

June 12, 2022 at 3:54 am #1204980554Some of the winners were questionable.
Paige Sandhu was robbed for Villain of the Year. Is it honestly a crime for Emmerdale to win Villain of the Year?
It’s nice to see Ross Boatman win Best Newcomer, and I’m pleased that Mark Charnock won something, but I do wish that Sally Carman won something.
The Hate Crime Storyline from Coronation Street or Jean’s Bi-Polar from EastEnders should have won Best Storyline instead of Misbah’s Historic Rape. It just felt they had to give Hollyoaks something, despite how awful it’s been.
ReplyCopy URLJune 12, 2022 at 6:15 am #1204980615I’m not sure how I feel about the Hate Crime storyline in Corrie only winning for the perpetrator…I know it’s the nature of the category but that feels a tad off
The jury LOVE Hollyoaks still…one story getting two awards (jury wise being the most endorsed storyline with awards) while they do not like Emmerdale that much (one jury award despite sweeping the public voted categories)
Love to see Doctors win something, and as sweet as it was the jury saying ‘it should have won a BAFTA’, Doctors is eligible for BAFTA and didn’t get nominated, but I’d like to see them recognised one day.
I’ve also looked at Lacey Turner’s stellar British Soap Awards history:
21 individual nominations, with 7 trophies to her name. Plus being central/heavily involved in 3 Best Storyline winners (The Aftermath of Max & Stacey’s Affair – 2008; Who Killed Archie – 2010; Stacey’s Postpartum Psychosis – 2016) and 1 Single Episode win (Eastenders Live – 2010).
Not to mention all the Best Soap wins Eastenders has had and how many of those years she’s had central stories.
2005: Best Young Performance
2005: Best Bitch
2006: Best Actress WIN
2006: Best Dramatic Performance
2007: Best Actress
2007: Sexiest Female
2007: Best Dramatic Performance WIN
2008: Best Actress
2009: Sexiest Female
2010: Best Actress WIN
2010: Best Dramatic Performance WIN
2011: Best Exit
2014: Best Actress
2016: Best Actress WIN
2016: Female Dramatic Performance WIN
2017: Best Actress
2017: Best On Screen Partnership
2018: Best Actress
2018: Best On Screen Partnership
2018: Best Female Dramatic Performance
2022: Best On Screen Partnership WINFor comparison, her likely nearest rival is Danny Miller with 11 nominations and 4 wins.

June 12, 2022 at 9:50 am #1204980734I honestly think that Hollyoaks and EastEnders would’ve scooped up at the 2020 Soap Awards if it wasn’t for the pandemic.
I think Ste’s Radicalization Storyline would have won a few awards, and I reckon Chris Simmons would have won Villain of the Year.
I also think Kellie Bright would have won Best Actress for Linda’s Alcoholism Storyline.
