This was arguably Top Chef’s best season to date and Drag Race had a rocky season although not a hated one. This season, Top Chef overperformed getting their very first Casting nomination and keeping their Directing, Editing and Host nomination that they received last year after almost a decade of being snubbed.

Drag Race, on other hand, missed a Sound Mixing nomination but earned their very first Production Design nod.

It's about the chaotic editing in Moulin Rouge!

I loved this season of Top Chef. But I think laziness will keep Drag Race winning until another bigger reality show comes up. Same for Ru winning host. Although I wouldn’t be upset if they lost both.

I think Top Chef needed to have more than “best season to date” in its favor, it needed buzz, press, articles here and there, a non-threatening controversy to help it be remembered (not the Gabe thing) and so on. Was it the best season ever? I don’t know, but it was good enough. The problem is that not everybody knows this. I don’t see buzz anywhere for this show. But yeah, it probably should win.

Don’t count out Drag Race either, people will just tell you the season sucked so they can follow it with the tiresome “UK season 2 was better.” It’s not really about the quality of S13, it’s just to push the UK narrative further, which is meaningless when discussing Emmys.

Sure. Anything’s possible. “Drag Race” fatigue could possibly set in with voters, though that’s not necessarily reflected in its nominations. Season 13 wasn’t its best or most acclaimed season, but it’s rising in viewership and mainstream appeal with each passing cycle. “Top Chef” just had one of its best seasons ever, plus this could be a push to acknowledge the struggling restaurant industry hit hardest during a global pandemic. It’ll also have to contend with its winner facing sexual assault allegations that can’t easily be swept under the rug anymore. Probably another win for “Drag Race” in Competition Program, but watch out for a potential upset in Reality Host for Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio, and newly added citation Gail Simmons.

Yes, I think so, though I’m not ready to put it out front yet. The changes they made to the show because of the pandemic were inspired and made for a much more compelling season, especially the all-star panel. I saw a lot of press about how this was the “kindest” Top Chef season yet, and it was indeed a feel-good installment. The judges’ table of the “Blind Ambitions” episode was really moving and feels tailor-made for an awards highlight reel. It will be a major challenge to get around Gabe Erales’ victory, though, which was the worst of all possible outcomes for an otherwise phenomenal season.

    The Amazing Race
    Nailed It!
    RuPaul’s Drag Race
    Top Chef
    The Voice

I would not be upset if Nailed It won in this category or if Nicole Byer won the Reality Host category.
