The Mentalist-Jane went so far leading someone to break and then having a fake massacre. Whoa! I wish Baker could get back in the Emmy race.
CSI:NY- Good thing Messer is a CSI again. Having him be a cop was interesting but you know it would lead back to him being a CSI.

Hopefully they’ll keep delivering these strong stories and let Montgomery shine.
ReplyCopy URLOctober 20, 2011 at 5:26 am #224642Last week’s CSI, “Maid Man”, was a very solid episode with some actual detective work and use of forensics, unlike so many of these procedurals where the characters seem to guess and/or have clues thrown in their laps.
After the flop with Fishburne, the show has scored with both Danson and Harnois this year, who are being worked in organically and successfully. So far, this is the strongest season of the show since the Miniature Killer year. Looking forward to seeing “CSI Down” this weekend.

‘CSI’
CBS, 12th Season
OUT Laurence Fishburne, generally acknowledged not to have found his footing during his three seasons on the show.
IN Ted Danson as D. B. Russell, new night supervisor of the Las Vegas crime lab.
With an ironclad formula and a large, veteran ensemble, “CSI” can ride out changes better than most shows. It has already dealt with the departure of its original star, William Petersen (replaced by Mr. Fishburne) and the temporary defection of one of its primary supporting actors, Jorja Fox. It has rolled right along into Season 12, and Mr. Danson’s talents as a comedian have been a boon. The producers have always tried to balance the forensic gore and violence with touches of humor, but in Mr. Petersen, Mr. Fishburne and Marg Helgenberger, they haven’t had lead actors who were naturally funny.
GRADE A.

“CSI Down” 10/19/11***1/2 out of ****
For a procedural in its twelfth season to produce an episode this compelling is kind of amazing. The show stepped away from formula successfully for a suspense episode as new CSI tech Morgan was on board a Medivac helicopter with a desperate, injured suspect. Elizabeth Harnois, who had already established herself as a worthy new member of the cast, reached a new level here by displaying great range, from cockiness to fear to tears. Her breakdown at the very end was a nice piece of acting. The teleplay efficiently brought some new emotional stakes into play as well, which will serve the show well over the course of the rest of the season.
Well-acted by the entire cast (both regular and guest), directed with verve by Jeffrey Hunt and then edited and scored for maximum effectiveness. Nice job.

Jane’s tricks are becoming more extreme as he is a little unstable because he didn’t really kill Red John and just a follower. Like getting that guy to do fake massacre and getting that killer killed and having Red John come back. What Jane to that guy was what got Red John so mad that he killed Jane’s family. Someone saying they were superior to Red John.

*** out of ****
TV’s best procedural continued a strong season with this suitably icky episode about a traveling sideshow. There were probably one too many twists in the final act, but all in all it was a satisfying and creepy outing which put actual investigation at the forefront. The production values continue to be outstanding and series veteran Alec Smight’s direction was crisp and sure.
