I don’t think it’ll happen, but I hope Adam Driver can get a nod for SNL. Besides Eddie Murphy, he had my favorite episode of the season, and it would be nice way to recognize him for being one of the most consistently strong hosts in recent years.

June 12, 2020 at 4:46 am #1203529338I don’t personally watch Maisel but I’ve spoken to a lot of people that had, and most don’t even remember her appearing. I’d say she’s in 5th at best

I hope Wanda Sykes gets in because she’s always brilliant, but the role is the same size as Fiona Shaw’s in Fleabag, and the voters would have had to have watched all of Maisel instead of just the first few episodes

She’s safer than Lisa Kudrow.

She is an extremely well respected industry vet, an Emmy winner with ten nominations, portraying a real life comedian, and she’s guesting on an Emmy favorite that is particularly popular with actors.
I’d say she stands a good chance.
ReplyCopy URLJune 13, 2020 at 9:08 am #1203531162I think Maya Rudolph finally deserves this for The Good Place. This season was her best performance and she was given much more to do. Again, she should have been nominated and won for her guest turn on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt as Dionne Warwick.
I would love to see Wanda Sykes get more screen time on any show because she adds zip to any scene that she is in. I do hope that Wanda appears in future episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel because I would look to see more of how and if Moms Mabley will play an influence on Mrs. Maisel the character.
ReplyCopy URLJune 14, 2020 at 12:23 am #1203531984Just interviewed Cristin Milioti and she is going to find out if she can switch to guest! I think that she can get nominated if she does and after her Gold Derby Award nominations for Black Mirror and Fargo, it is safe to say here that she is overdue for an Emmy nomination. Kumail Nanjiani got nominated for fellow episodic anthology The Twilight Zone last year largely off the visibility that he had by leading the first episode of the show, which was not even acclaimed and it did not even get any other nominations. Milioti leads the Modern Love premiere and it helps that her episode is actually really good and arguably the best one.
I’d say the big hurdle for her might be that not enough people watched Modern Love,TZ might have underwhelmed but it had a lot of initial eyeballs for those first 2 episodes and most of the criticism wasn’t really directed to any of the on screen performers. Milioti imo is in a similiar situation to say D’Arcy Carden for The Good Place, probably an underdog to even get nominated but possibly have a path to an upset victory if they do get nominated.
ReplyCopy URLJune 14, 2020 at 1:11 am #1203532000I doubt that she can win, but Modern Love has 14K ratings on IMDb, so it seems to have gotten a decent sampling and its 8.0 score suggests that people liked it. The Twilight Zone has a 5.7 score from 10K ratings for comparison.

Carden could’ve been an underdog for a victory last year, but this year she doesn’t have the performance, as they gave her nothing of much note to do this time around.
ReplyCopy URLJune 14, 2020 at 5:12 pm #1203533041I watched the final season of Schitt’s Creek and I think what we have in comedy guest actor with it (Victor Garber versus Dustin Milligan) is what we had with the final season of Lost on the opposite side in drama guest actress (Allison Janney versus Elizabeth Mitchell). You have a big name showing up for a single appearance that is not undeniable, then you have someone who has been a main cast member for several seasons suddenly making guest eligibility for a reduced role, albeit they retain their spot in the main credits when they appear.
