The Creative Arts Emmys are now being presented over an astonishing five nights this week. Not sure what was so special about the animated Doctor Who VR as opposed to any other VR that warrants an Emmy for it, but I could not bring myself to predict the alternative: Big Mouth winning an Emmy for freaking Instagram Stories.

The Messy Truth is the most narratively interesting in its category (not that the others really have narratives) and it has Brie Larson, but it is technically simple. What I saw of Rebuilding Notre Dame was not quite as ambitious as its title, so I am going with When We Stayed Home, which seemed to hit the mark the most.

Robot Chicken is tempting because it has won so many times and people have actually seen it, but I am banking on the panel to pull through for Forky Asks a Question. Not saying that will play best with a panel, but it will play better than it would in a popular vote because not many have seen it, like how the HBO movies du jour keep losing to established brands.

My short form predictions are cynical. I would love to see all three of my predictions lose on the basis of merit. (Better Call Saul has won this award before.)

Succession wins casting → Succession wins directing/series
Ozark wins casting → Ozark wins directing/series
The Crown wins casting → Homeland/Ozark wins directing, Succession wins series

Schitt’s Creek feels like a lock in series at this point and it has not even won an Emmy.

I do not understand why only 24% are predicting Watchmen in music supervision. Not saying that I have data or anything, but that feels like a gimme to me.

I was predicting Unorthodox in theme, but I had to drop it because it is nineteen seconds long! Ugh, it will be frustrating to have lost the points, but I do hope that it wins though.

I just switched to Brooklyn Nine-Nine in stunts. It is tough because it has been so long since it last won that it actually has not won under the plurality system, but the Creative Arts have gone so far back into their old wells in the last few days, that it would not be a surprise. And I suppose that Andre Braugher rebounding is demonstrative of some renewed interest. Between Scientology and the Aftermath and The Ranch, final seasons have not done terribly in wins this year though, albeit both of those had won before, which seems to be the stronger through line. See also One Day at a Time beating Will & Grace. Going back to Shameless now that the admissions scandal has blown over will be eye-rolling.

Question on the Music Supervision predictions: are people choosing This Extraordinary Being because it has great music supervision or just because it’s a juggernaut? I don’t really remember that aspect of the episode (probably because I was so busy being blown away by everything else) but meanwhile, Music Supervision feels like it’s the lifeblood of Euphoria
