While I forgot to change my predictions before they closed, I’m not sure Esposito will manage to win guest actor now after Taika’s loss.
The opposite I see happening in guest actress in comedy which I think Maya Rudolph is easily taking.

DouglasSeptember 18, 2020 at 4:33 pm #1203716741Be careful when watching on FXX – based on how they aired the juried award winners, it looks like if there are multiple winners in a category, they announce one winner, show that acceptance speech, and then announce the next winner, without any mention in advance that there were multiple winners. Normally, the presenter will say that there are multiple winners before reading them.
Also, if the ceremony skips Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking, it would be because the category has the possibility of no winner. This has happened in the past, in the days of the “you need at least 50% approval to win in an Area” rule (which still exists in some Picture Editing and Sound Mixing categories).

Sticks & StonesSeptember 19, 2020 at 4:53 am #1203717434I swear if The Handmaid’s Tale wins more craft Emmys than 2nd most nominated craft Drama Ozark…

September 19, 2020 at 4:59 am #1203717445No of course THT is more deserving. I’d argue THT should sweep all the crafts apart from Cinematography (where I’d narrowly go for The Crown).
It’s just that it would be quite sad to see Ozark go home empty handed when it should be winning something like Sound Mixing for example at the very least.

September 19, 2020 at 5:08 am #1203717455I agree. But I think it proves what I and others have said all along, which is that voting for the nominations and winners are two very different processes. More name-checking/show-checking happens on the first go-around than on the second, which is why you can get 18 noms and still lose almost all of them. I think voters do just vote for their favorite nominee in the category when it comes time to select the winners. It’s how Handmaid’s could win production design over the two series frontrunners. I also think we’re seeing a lot of repeats, which is why I see people like Julia Garner, Alexis Bledel and so on possibly winning again.

Yeah this is how I’m feeling on the Comedy side. I switched to predicting Dan Levy but I have a feeling considering how much love in the industry there is generally for Shalhoub and considering how he repeated at SAG that he might repeat.
I feel a bit less confident in Garner having a chance to win than I was but we’ll see.

September 19, 2020 at 7:10 am #1203717549Handmaid’s over Euphoria in Makeup? Please no.
I even know professional make up artists who started Euphoria just to see the make up work on it.

September 19, 2020 at 7:18 am #1203717562On merit, Handmaid’s would not win makeup over Euphoria. It barely has any makeup considering handmaids are forbidden to wear any. Euphoria is 100 times showier.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 7:32 am #1203717590Yeah I really can’t see anything beating Euphoria in Makeup. Just by virtue of it being such a key part of the shows overall vibe.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 7:34 am #1203717597I have Cicely Tyson low, but fork my score. I want her to win soooooo bad. She’s 95 and still delivering fantastic work.

I mean as soon as you type in Euphoria you SEE the makeup. It’s such a central part of the vibe as you said and it’s for similar reasons why I think Unorthodox is winning Costumes and not Killing Eve or Schitt’s Creek (although props to them because they’re both incredibly deserving).
Very interested to see what happens in hairstyling (period/character). Westworld was snubbed and The Crown hasn’t won this award yet so unless there is more support than I was expecting across the board with The Crown I should go with incumbent winner Maisel no?
