Having see Cherry Jones in THT and Defending Jacob, I simply do not see the appeal. The only thing I can guess is that she embodies the aunt a lot of white voters wish they had.
Jones is an absolutely phenomenal actress, and her turn on Succession was wonderful, but honestly, ugh. Not this year.

September 19, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1203719317Sorry to the fans but it was quite obvious Cicely was not winning… y’all brought this disappointment on yourself.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1203719319They’re f*cking shamelesssss. They namecheck people of color and specifically Ron Cephas Jones (which is not remotely the shameless part), but go on to vote for Cherry Jones over Legend Tyson or Rashad, after giving her an Emmy for doing absolutely nothing remotely awards worthy in The Boremaid’s Tale. I’m disgusted.
Do you think Eddie Murphy and Maya Rudolph did not deserve to win?
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1203719321Unrelated, but with the name-check powers she has Cherry Jones is totally winning an Oscar first chance she gets, right? Euphoria in Makeup is a best win of the night imo.
Well if The Eyes of Tammy Faye gets released this year we need to stop her from beating Glenn!

September 19, 2020 at 7:45 pm #1203719323We all knew she wasn’t winning; it doesn’t make it any less sad, however. We’re allowed to be disappointed.

I don’t know that it’s such a good idea to base your perception of Cherry Jones’ acting off of her role (that is barely a role as she doesn’t even do much) in THT. Do I wish that they had awarded someone else for once? Yes (Cicely Tyson!! The 95 year old legend!!). But, do I blame Cherry Jones for it or want to criticize her acting all of a sudden? No.
If you want to blame anyone for her always winning, then I think it makes more sense to blame the Television Academy who always vote for her. Seems unfair to blame her for getting name checked by other people.
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 19, 2020 at 7:48 pm #1203719342This wasn’t a drag honey, I got what you were saying and I agree with you. I just think Applegate is third because she is clearly respected (as we could see with her and PWB being the only ones nominated at the every winter award) and because I don’t think voters care about giving Rachel a second Emmy so soon.
Yeah no I totally understand. I just realised how impolite I was with my language.
With Rachel the reason I have her third (she’s not winning) is because I think she’s going to win again for her final season. I mean she could very well have been ahead of JLD last year and she did near sweep twice in a row.
